If we start making squares which has a side equal to the Fibonacci Numbers and gradually go on making these squares and adding them in a particular pattern we'll get a huge rectangle. That is, if i start with a 1 by 1 square next to that put another 1 by 1 square. Together they form a 1 by 2 rectangle. Beneath that I'll put a 2 by 2 square and next to that a 3 by 3 square. Beneath that a 5 by 5 square and then a 8 by 8 square, creating a one giant rectangle. This is what we call as THE GOLDEN RECTANGLE. Now, if we join the diagonal vertices of the square with an arc and if I continue joining all the diagonal vertices of the squares inside The Golden Rectangle, we will get a spiral which is known as THE GOLDEN SPIRAL and like The Fibonacci Numbers, you have surely come across these famous spirals atleast once in your daily life.
GOLDEN SPIRAL IN DAILY LIFE
The most common place to see this spiral is in the Nautilus Shell. Even you can see this spiral in many famous Architectures, Nature and even Cosmos.
You might have heard the name of the masterpiece painting by Leonardo Da Vinci-"The Mona Lisa". It has been said by many scientists that if we start the spiral from her nose it will go over her head through her shoulders and up to her hand. Even we can fit the Golden Rectangle in the space between her eyes. Further her entire body can be fit into a Golden Rectangle. Even his another famous painting-"The Last Supper" also fits inside the Golden Rectangle. His other artworks have also the Golden Rectangle inscribed in it which I will show you in later pages. Even many other Artists also used this Golden Spiral to give a pinch of more beauty to it.
