"Hey, Keefe. Um... what are you doing here at three in the morning?" I ask groggily, and he laughs.
"It's three in the evening, Foster. Your blinds are closed, so you can't tell."
"Funny." I say, but when I open the blinds, he's right.
"What?! Oh, I guess I didn't sleep as long as I thought I did."
"When did you go to sleep?"
"I just took a nap at noon because I was tired, so I thought I'd slept all night."
"Okay. Why, couldn't sleep?"
"Just some nightmares, that's all." I assure him, and he points at the dark circles under my eyes.
"Then what are those?" He asks.
"Well, it's not that bad, I just didn't sleep much last night. And the night before that." I answer.
"And let me guess, the night before that too?" He teases, but I roll my eyes, not in the mood.
"I don't see why it's your business..." I mutter.
"I'm just worried, that's all. You look really beat up." He says worriedly, and I smile.
"I'm fine. It's nice you care, though." I say.
"Of course I care! You're my friend." He adds, and I feel something inside of me shrivel when he says that. It's fine. It was a long shot anyway.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He asks, and I want to laugh. He's kind of oblivious sometimes, for an Empath.
"Nothing." I mutter.
"See, I know that's not true." He answers, and I glare at the ground.
"Can you tell because you're an Empath?" I snarl mockingly, and he pulls back.
"What... what did I say?" He asks, and I shake my head.
"It's what you didn't say, Keefe. The things you never will say." I sigh.
"But what do you want to hear?" He asks.
"It dosen't count if you tell me them because I want to hear them. You won't say them on your own."
"I really like you, Sophie. If that's what you want to hear, it's what my head screams constantly. But if it's not... then I'm sorry to dump this on you." He apologizes, and I look deep into his ice blue eyes, wanting to know if he's being sincere or not.
I think he is, so I say,
"I like you too, Keefe. More than you'll ever know." I whisper, and he shakes his head.
