There were a few things Y/N realized at a very young age.

1)He was not like the other boys

But that statement is so cliche, and Y/n only liked cliches when they worked in his favor. Like an enemy taunting you about how they cheated only for everyone to hear and turn against them. Those were helpful, and Y/n had enough inconveniences in his life.

y'know with the whole growing up in a world with actual super powered people who wouldn't hesitate to pick on a kid. Especially the kids who either hadn't gotten a quirk yet, or couldn't figure out how to work theirs well enough to single handedly take down some asshole in a case of stranger danger on steroids.

2)Quirks were overrated.

Of course, growing up in a world filled with people who had amazing superpowers, he had the privilege to say that quirks were overrated. But, and a very big one at that, as someone who grew up believing they were quirkless Y/n really got to see how having quirks weren't necessarily a good thing.

Crimes suddenly became all the more dangerous. Iit wasn't like weapons suddenly stopped existing because someone learned how to levitate a few pencils in the third grade.

Technology evolved with humanity and now there's the problem of deadly quirks belonging to the same criminals who would use a weapon that came out of one of those outdated shows about flying cars and laser beams. Side note : maybe those lame ass shows got something right for once.

Then you've got performative heroics (that name had yet to truly discover because he too had a dream of being the next all might) that provided hedonistic (self indulgent/pleasure seeking) people a platform that served as not only a stage to perform their tricks on like the clowns they were but also a pedestal to look down from.

Essentially Y/N was stuck. He couldn't exactly feel at home trying to fit in with all the other kids. He wasn't a normal boy and he didn't have a flashy quirk to play around with.

There was a feeling of being an outsider when it looked like everyone else fit in. He of course became very jaded at a young age. But that snarky personality and defensiveness ultimately led to a few good things.

The last thing Y/N had realized was that unlike quirks, love was not overrated.
