I know you think you’re hated,
I know the hurt you feel,
But trust me sister when I say
My love for you is real.
You think that I’m successful,
That you do not compare,
That you’re a disappointment
And that nobody will care.
Here is what I see
When I really look at you:
A beautiful glass window
With a bright light shining through.
But then I spot the shadows
Of the dark and heavy curtains
And watch as they cast over you
And make you more uncertain.
Now it’s time to draw them back,
It’s time to be yourself,
Don’t listen to the bitter words
Of everybody else.
Stand up straight and raise your chin
And make yourself feel tall,
Remember that I’m always here
To catch you if you fall.
Ash, you’re beautiful in every way
If only you could see,
The fire that burns on inside
Is wild, strong, and free.
You might think I’m lying
And what I’m saying is untrue
However please believe me
When I say that I love you.
