"Hyerin, I don't think I can attend my job", my brother spoke and coughed afterwards, his coughs sounded severe. "I've been working there for the past few weeks and I signed a contract that lasts 3 months".
"How many months do you have left to work there?", I questioned my brother who sat down next to me. He laid back and coughed yet again. His condition hasn't been the best after working multiple jobs.
"I worked there for a month and a half, so I'm almost done with the contract", he explained. "I receive my salary monthly and I can't get it early, especially with my condition right now".
I thought about it. I couldn't let him work there with his condition of his growing worse. I was a graduating student who has three months before my graduation. I also couldn't risk my education, not after what my brother went through in order to make me go to school.
"I'll work in your stead", I said. He work during the night at that company, which made it convenient for me. "I'll study hard during the morning, do my homework in the afternoon and work your job during the night"
"Hyerin, you don't have to do this. I can easily just cancel the contract"
"And pay the fee of cancelling the contract with Lee Cosmetics? I've heard many people had gone bankrupt just by cancelling a contract, whether big or small", I said. "You've given up your education in order to work and get money for us to live. You've prioritized me your whole life after our parents died"
"But..."
"No, Kim Jungwoo, you should go to the hospital to get a checkup with our remaining savings. I'll make a way to pay for your medicines and our rent"
"I'm sorry, Hyerin. We wouldn't be living this life if I didn't let Doyoung hold onto our parents' savings", Jungwoo apologized. "I thought that the three of us siblings would go through it together, but I thought wrong"
"He just vanished with all the money and left us without a single penny", I said. "I don't think I can call him my brother anymore"
