Day 1

A.K.A Christmas Day

Cammie pov

“Merry Christmas Zach” I told him as we woke up early on this lovely Christmas Day. It was still dark outside, not even dawn yet. Well 6:00 AM was still dark outside. I think the earliest the sun rose during this time was 7 something AM.

“Merry Christmas Cammie” He replied kissing me on the lips gently. “Is that my present?” I teased. He shook his head giving me one of his infamous sexy smirks. He kissed me once more. “Your gift is even better” Now I really want to know what he got me. The suspense was killing me all month long. At least I won't have to wait any longer.

“Let's split up waking the kids up and making breakfast” I suggest climbing out of the warm sheets which was nothing compared the warmth of Zach's chest. He nodded getting up as well. “I'll get the kids” I nodded going into the closet to get a sweater. Just because it was Christmas didn't mean it wasn't freezing inside. I wonder why the heat turned off we usually keep it on the whole night. I have to check that later.

I decided to make pancakes. Everyone loves pancakes especially in different shapes. I tried to shape them as Christmas trees or snowmen and one time I tried a reindeer but they all came out looking like disfigured circles. Just because their shape was weird didn't mean it was inedible.

If anything we still have some leftover gingerbread cookies. Well maybe not for long if they don't get down here soon.

Just as I was about to snag another cookie I heard heavy footsteps on the stairs along with excited whispers. I heard Zach telling them “Be Goode little children”. I grabbed as many plates as I could and brought them to the living room where they were already waiting.

“Good morning Mommy” they said at the same time. I greeted them with a smile and returned the saying. “And good morning to you!”

I handed each of them a plate making sure to give Zach the lopsided one. He didn't mind unless you count him trying to poke me.

“Are you ready to open your presents?” I asked from Zach's lap. We were all basically piled up on Zach's lap. Normally I would feel like I was crushing him but it's Christmas. “Your suffocating me” Zach whispered in my ear. I gathered the kids and instead we surrounded him and his warmth. I got up to get a thick blanket to put around us. It had little Christmas trees on them. I also got our camera to take videos.

I think we were really getting into the holiday spirit.

“Yes!” Matthew shouted. “Can I go first?”he continued. I nodded rearranging the blanket so he could get out. He was beginning to learn how to read and write in school. One of the first things he could recognize was his own name so he had no trouble locating his gifts.

He grabbed three boxes underneath the tree we decorated a few days ago. Zach and I got him one big gift and one small gift and Lily gave him something separate.

Matt dug into the boxes causing wrapping paper to fly everywhere. One landed on Lily's nose and another one Zach's cheek. I was the only survivor. Wow that sounded really dramatic.

“Say them out loud” I tell him focusing the video camera. He held up the first one which happened to be the biggest. It was the race car set Zach and I got him from the toy store. Matt thanked us before moving onto his next gift which was a new night-light since Lily accidentally broke his a while ago. This one was in the shape of smiley face. Nevertheless he liked it, or so his expression and voice said so. Finally his last gift was from Lily and it was a drawing she made.

The drawing was of the both of them playing with blocks or legos I couldn’t really tell. He hugged his little sister and told all of us “Merry Christmas”

“Merry Christmas to you too” Zach told him. He smiled and reentered the blanket of warmth. “Your turn Lily” I said. She wasted no time in jumping out of the blanket to the three boxes she had too. Zach and I got her a stuffed minion from the mall as well as multiple coloring books because she had a slight obsession with coloring and crayons. Matthew made her a giant card (for his size) and some candy canes attached to a small stuffed animal.

It gave me such joy seeing them so happy and excited. The kids were laughing and playing together in the corner with their new toys.

Zach took the camera from me and handed me my 2 gifts. I opened the ones from the kids first to see a picture frame made from popsicle sticks that had a picture of all of us a few months ago at the zoo. My hair was In Zach's face ans Matthew's eyes were closed but it was an amazing gift without a doubt.

I opened Zach's gift with caution. Finally I could know what was in there. I unwrapped it slowly to make it seem more dramatic and to rifle him up a little. “Come on Cammie” he said impatiently. I smirked at him but it vanished as soon as I saw what was inside of it. He gave me locket that opened up to a picture of Zach and I, us as a family and one of me and my Dad. My eyes instantly teared up at the sight. This was one of the most thoughtful gifts he's ever given me.

“Thank you' I say leaning over to kiss him passionately on the lips. We pull away only to breath and even then he rests his forehead against mine. I was forced to look into his eyes as he said “ I would do anything for you if it brings that smile to your face. And now you can have us with you wherever you go.”

“That was the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me” I tell him feeling a little breathless. How can he be the literal definition of perfect?

“Even when I offered you peanut m&m's on the elevator where we first met?” I can't believes he still remembered that.

I playfully shoved him before taking the camera and handing him his own gifts. Like myself he opened the kids first to find a whole box worth of m&m's, the peanut kind. I smirked at him. “This is such a coincidence.”

He shot me a look of disbelief but proceeding to his next gift. I actually had to spend some time coming up with this one. After tearing off the wrapping paper like an animal he saw my old cove-ops report from when I first met him. This was all of my thoughts of that semester and it marked the start of my ever-growing feelings for him. I never showed these to anyone so it was a big deal to me.

“I think you'll like it” I tell him watching his reaction from the screen. He pushes it away and pulls me into a loving hug. We stayed like that for a while. It gave me some time to think. It made me realize how grateful I am for everything and everyone around me. I realize how lucky I am to have a loving husband and happy, healthy kids who are amazing.

I can't help but sit here and think my father would be looking down at me and my family being proud of what I have become and smiling.
