Burnt Rolls and Shopping

I woke up the next morning with Niall's hair tickling my nose.

We were both still sitting at the same table we had been at when the group of carolers came rushing into the shop, but our heads were laying on the table, our arms sprawled across it. Aunt Edith was resting comfortably in her chair, an airplane pillow thing supporting her neck.

I had no idea that she even had one of those with her- but apparently she did and I was extremely jealous of it, as my forehead was pink, my neck and back feeling rather sore.

I suppose that's just what I get for not knowing how to get to my apartment.

Of course, in my own defense, we had only been in New York for a few months, and Niall had no idea how to get there either. That really wasn't saying much because Niall was Niall, but it made me feel better about myself, so I shrugged it off.

"Ni," I mumbled tiredly, poking his arm. "Wake up."

He groaned and buried his head farther into his arms.

"C'mon," I pushed, shaking his forearm.

When he didn't budge, I lifted my head from the table and rubbed my eyes with the tips of my fingers, yawning as I did so. Unsure of what time it was, I slipped my phone from my pocket and glanced down at the screen. It was just past one and my battery was low.

It was kind of weird to actually wake up so late. I normally awoke early and slept in, but because we had such an eventful day yesterday, I assumed that it really wore us out and led us to an extremely deep sleep.

I pushed Niall's body with more force this time, knocking a portion of his body off of the table, which successfully caused him to lift his head. I smiled at the sight of him- hair all over the place, skin flushed, eyes half open.

"Morning," I greeted, stretching my arms above my head.

"Yeah, whatever," he snorted, his voice hoarse and wow.

I chuckled as he began to copy my actions, stretching and pulling and popping his knuckles and back and neck. Aunt Edith was beginning to stir, her eyes fluttering open. Her purse was propped up in her lap, our luggage not far from her chair. I sighed in relief, more than glad that it hadn't been stolen late last night.

Dawn came walking towards us, a tray in her hands. There were three cups of coffee placed onto it neatly, as well as three blueberry muffins and napkins. She placed a cup and muffin before each of us, and I watched Niall's eyes twinkle in delight.

"Oh, what do we owe you?" he asked, glancing up at her before looking back to his food, licking his lips.

"Nothing, nothing," she grinned, placing her hands onto her hips. "No charge. Consider it a Christmas present."

"Thank you so much," Niall and I spoke in unison, offering her appreciative smiles before I added, "It smells lovely."

"Hopefully it'll taste that way as well," Dawn replied, giving us a small nod before heading back in the direction she came.

I had really enjoyed her company so far, if I was being honest. She was kind enough to let us stay here, but after our caroling experience last night, we had a long conversation with her full of laughs. Of course, she also brought us a free breakfast, which only added to my liking towards her.
