I took a sip of my strong-sweet black coffee and I felt my nerves letting loose. The cup that Ndalo made didn't hit the spot. Tessa is really good at her job. She proves it every day that I made a right decision by hiring her. I looked at the pile of papers that waited for me to read and approve or decline. I love my job and I love reading but this right here, let me just say; reading isn't nice when its compulsory to read.
I am a publisher. 5 months ago I finally grasped my dream of owning my own publishing company. It is still new and little but I'm certain in a period of 5 years we'll be big and better. To think that there were times I wanted to give up and just let it all die but the fighter in me wouldn't let me. Standing there at my own office drinking my own coffee from my own mug, I couldn't be happier.
The sad part where I finish my coffee came. I went to rinse the mug over my small hand basin. My office is me. It is everything that I am. It is bold, bright, dull and beautiful. I decorated it myself, not because I wanted to but because I couldn't afford a designer, not to blow my own horn but I did a mean job. It was the first thing my mother ever complimented in years. She doesn't see good in anyone, that's her nature.
Tessa came in swaying her hips side to side. She has a very beautiful tiny body structure.
Tessa: Morning.
We didn't see each other when I arrived.
Me: Morning.
Tessa: Did you go through the draft I sent you last night?
Me: Draft? I didn't check my emails last night. What was it about?
Tessa: What Close Me Up is based on.
Me: The book by V Ndondo?
Tessa: Yes. Its so good Monde.
Me: Do you think it'd sell like hot cake?
Tessa: Just read it and tell if you don't want more.
Me: You sound very certain.
Tessa: I am. Khuboni is coming.
Me: Thee Khuboni?
Tessa: Yes! Oh my God I'm so excited. I called his requesting a meeting, this morning I woke up and found an email from him; his personal account saying he's gonna visit us instead. I can literally feel my juices drop down my thighs.
Khuboni is those yummy men that we always drool over but can never have because they are married and only have eyes for their wives.
Me: Eww marn Tessa. Lets tide up this place.
Tessa: I cleaned Monde.
She said disappointed. I laughed.
Me: I mean the stack of papers. Its really clean. This place only has myself, Tessa, Bongani who deals with printing. Its a portable beautiful place, my office, Tessa's outside mine and then the rest of the space has machines and Bongani's tiniest office next to them.
Tessa: Its so amazing when we have investors coming over.
Me: It scares me.
Tessa: Why?
Me: I feel like they judge this place.
Tessa: No, the reason they invest is because they see how dedicated you are and how much invested you're in this place. You've published 3 books they successfully sold. This company is hardly 6 months but it is doing really great. Its amazing babe, its what attracts them.
Me: You're my spiritual guru.
Tessa: Personal assistant. Just doing my job honey. Let me go order a juicy platter for Mr juicy dick.
Me: His type isn't really good at that department.
Tessa: Have you seen his walk? There's noway he doesn't make a girl beg for mercy on her 5th round of cum.
Me: Oh Lord come and lay a hand on her. She's losing it.She laughed and headed out. She's so naughty. I cleaned up nothing. You may never know where an outsider may see a fault. I fixed myself and sat down and waited.
After 10 minutes of waiting. I decided to take my mirror and check if my hair was still intact. First impressions last, perfect should be the word whenever they ask him about me.
"Do I have the right place?"
I moved my eyes off the mirror and Mr juicy everything was standing there on my office. I couldn't believe it. A man so rich and famous took his time and drove to this dodgy side of town, leaving his office in Sandton to come here. I had to represent myself well and win his heart. He has to be amongst 4 investors that I need, 2 down. All I needed was now him and another human with a successful business.
Me: I- uhm...yeah you do.
I got up.
Me: Please have a seat.
He motioned towards the desk. Ohhh sweet Jesus Tessa was right. He walked like God stretched his legs every morning. Men his age do not look this good.
Khuboni: For a moment I thought I was in a beauty salon.
Beauty salon? My office looks like a beauty salon?
Me: Excuse me?
He chuckled.
Khuboni: I'm kidding. I found you busy on your mirror so I was-
Me: Oh. I get you. I'm Nomonde Grootboom, the founder of this very place.
He looked around.
Khuboni: Young beautiful woman with a growing beautiful business. Impressive.
Me: Thank you. Mr Nzima I'm so honoured to have you taking your very precious time to come here. I really appreciate it.
Khuboni: That pitch left me no choice. I had to come and see this very sophisticated, passionate and dedicated woman with my own bare eyes. I was taken, I can't lie and considering that this place is 5 months old; you'reca rare breed Miss Grootboom. I'm really impressed.
