It was one a.m. in New York when Sally Jackson died, her newborn son sitting in NICU, no one to claim him. None of the staff noticed a sea breeze pass through the hospital halls. A shadow fell over the crib Sally's son was placed in.
"is it him?" a man said to a blond haired doctor standing in the corner
"Of course," the doctor said, "what did you think, the crib was labeled wrong?"
"Well I don't know Apollo, I'm not a doctor."
"Ugh don't remind me, I can't believe you got me to do this for you."
"Never mind that, what are we going to do with my son?"
"Don't ask me, it's not my problem."
"Are you so sure about that?" sniped Poseidon "You helped bring him into the world, Zeus won't be pleased with you either."
Apollo's head whipped around to face Poseidon's in a glare "Fine what are we going to do then."
"I can't bring him down to Atlantis, Amphitrite would be furious."
Apollo looked down the chart in his hands "Well, Sally isn't an option anymore."
"Shut up." hissed Poseidon "You don't get to talk about her."
"Fine fine fine but," Apollo grimaces "we still have an issue."
Poseidon follows Apollo's gaze to the boy laying in the crib.
"You know, I have heard rumors that our resident goddess of magic has a little pet world."
"Whatever do you mean," Interjects Poseidon "I have heard of no such place."
"Of course you haven't, you're second only to the big bad himself," Apollo sneered "no one would be stupid enough to let gossip get into such powerful hands."
Poseidon turned to the window at the cold words, he had always felt like an outsider to his so-called family, a reminder was not welcome "well then, continue on, what is this place you speak of?"
"Remember when Hecate went off the rails in England during the middle ages?"
"Of course," Poseidon balks "Zeus was furious about mortals having divine power. He said their 'magic' was a mockery and demanded them all to be killed immediately."
"Well, the thing is, she didn't." Apollo turns back to Poseidon his eyebrows raised as the sea god's face takes on a look of disbelief
"If this is true, why are rumors just starting up now? This happened thousands of years ago."
"Hecate started slipping, muttering under her breath all the time, some people overheard some things ya know."
"Well what did she say?" Poseidon was used to Apollo's tendency to ramble but his son was too important, they didn't have time for thoughts to wander.
"There's a big war going on, it even has all the bells and whistles, a prophecy, a chosen one, hell, even a homicidal maniac who calls himself the 'dark lord', perfect right?" Poseidon raises his brow at Apollo's words. A war zone isn't exactly the safe haven he imagined for his child.
"But, here's the thing" Apollo continues "no one will notice an extra or suspicious name on a register. Who pays attention to such trivial things when there's a war going on? The dark lord is looking for an heir, if we manage to get your little boy in the right position he could be safe from the most dangerous players in the game."
"Ap-"Poseidon tries to speak but Apollo barges on ahead "I mean, I guess some mortals on the light side could be considered dangerous, but I doubt they would kill a child. What with all of the holier than thou energy they have going on and-"
