My friends and I were on a Zoom meeting when Maria received a Tinder notification. We were all surprised and obviously wanted more details. The fact is that she had downloaded it at the beginning of all this corona mess just for fun. That's when another one of my friends jumped saying that she had downloaded it too. I have never even considered it! It was mental illness! If muy parents knew they would kill me. I downloaded it immediately.
I was almost 18, was losing my last year of high school, so why not? And it's not like I could actually meet the people I talked to.
So, started swiping left and right. At first I was kind of shy. This was new to me! I didn't even know what I was doing. Then I discovered the passport mode. Omg that opened my world, quite literally. I traveled all around the world. The guys were soooo cute or hot or cute and hot. Much better that the ones from my country for sure. Plus, with the, came a feeling of wilderness and adventure that was amazing.
I'm not a good conversation starter (if that's even a thing), so I use the only resource at hand: Tik Tok. There had to be some tiktokers on Tinder, right? I started with classics. A good High School Musical song on this side and a "Who are you" on the other one. It went horribly, couldn't be worse. The few people that followed the audios were girls, I had a moment when I decided to swipe girls and boys, the problem with that is that I am totally straight. Don't get me wrong, they were really cute, and if I was bi or a lesbian I would've totally gone there, but I'm just not. I did promised one that we were going to get married, though. And it was amazing how some of the girls who I texted the High School Musical song (it was Fabulous btw) thanked me and said that I made their day so much better. It really warmed my heart.
The answers from people that didn't know what I was talking about was usually a "what" or something totally ridiculous, one guy told me he was Sven from frozen (???), way to go dude, you'll get all the girls with that. But one guy caught my attention. He answered:
"I'm Marc"
I said that it wasn't what I was expecting, but ok? He then asked me what was I expecting. I briefly explained this whole Tik Tok plan.
He proceeded to apologize for not being familiar with it. Apologize. When I tell you it surprised me... He was so cute and so nice about the situation when he could've just left me on read. That's when I decided that I had to take this conversation a little bit more serious than the other ones. I had to use my A game, Marc deserved that.
"So, Marc, tell me something about yourself. I get the feeling that I want to know you."
Yes, I totally used part of a Hannah Montana song there, you caught me, but it was definitely the right move. Ladies and gentleman, we got him.
