A DISTRAUGHT BOY walked home, as tears slid down his cheeks. The girl he'd loved so dearly had told him that she didn't feel the same. He didn't know why though. They had held hands, cuddled, been on dates, and had even kissed a few times.

Yet, she didn't love him.

Small sniffles were heard as he opened his house door. Mary saw her son, and the smile that once played on her face instantly disappeared.

"Honey, what's wrong?" She asked the boy, who just sobbed louder, as he walked over to her. He wrapped his arms around her and continued to cry. She led him to the couch and sat him down, seating herself next to him.

"S-she doesn't love me." He said as he placed his head into the older woman's lap.

"What? Finn that's nonsense." She spoke in a confused yet pitiful tone.

He lifted his head off of her lap and wiped his eyes. "N-no, she t-told me. She doesn't love me." He continued to sob.

"Oh, honey how abo—" she spoke, but was soon interrupted by a soft and gentle knock on the door.

Finn placed his head in his lap. He recognized that knock anywhere. It was Y/n.

Mary got up and opened the door. Y/n had bloodshot red eyes and her hair was a mess. It was obvious that she had been crying. Mary opened the door further to let the girl in.

"Bubba?" She spoke gently, as she walked over the couch where Finn was sat.

"L-leave me alone." He spoke.

Y/n looked at the boy and her heart broke even more. She cared about the boy, she really did, but she didn't love him; she couldn't.

"Finn, I care about you. I really do, but I- I don't even know how to say this." She paused, looking at the boy who was now looking at her. "I have philophobia." Finn's face contorted into one of confusion as he looked at her. "I'm scared of being in love. If I were to ever fall in love with you, it wouldn't end well. That's why I've been trying to not fall in love with you, but you're making it really hard." She chuckled at the end.

Finn instantly smiled. "So you feel the same way?" He asked hopefully.

She waved her hand to make a 'kinda' motion. "I do care about you... in a romantic way, but— you don't love me?" Finn finished her sentence and got a nod in response.

"That's fine with me." He smiled at the girl again, and reached for her hand. She smiled back at him and leaned her head on his shoulder.

Even though she didn't love him, they were happy. And that's all that mattered.
