Hook
I brought her to Shanklin because I knew this place is safe. I knew I could easily get papers done for both of us and quite fast, might I add. Nobody will question me about being James Hook II, but it will take some time to explain to them why Bells doesn't have any documents and there isn't any mention about her in any register around the world. But again, it's not like they could physically check every register in UK. That would take them at least a year.
"James?" She leans herself against the doorway and looks at me with her arms crossed.
"Yes, love?"
"You haven't said anything." She tells me and I know what she means.
"Forgive me, love. It's complicated. You know you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I've said that to you on multiple ocasions. The last time I said those words, it was 20 years ago, before I came to Neverland."
"I don't understand." She frowns and turns her head away from me. I pull her into my arms and kiss the top of her head.
"One day, I will tell you this story. Not today, love."
She gently pushes me away and runs out of the room. I know she is upset, but I can't go there yet. I also know it's not fair towards her. She left her entire world to come with me and I can't man up and tell her I love her. I guess I do love her. Or maybe we rushed too soon into things and now everything will fall apart. I chase away the thoughts and go find her in the kitchen, eating grapes.
"Love?" I try to reach her hand but she takes it away from me.
"If you say so!" She tells me, visibly angry. I can't help but want to smile. She looks so adorable when she tries to put on angry or fierce faces.
"Why don't we just talk?" I tell her, hoping to calm down the spirits.
"Will you tell me what happened 20 years ago?" She asks me with a puff.
"Not quite. But we can talk about other events in our past."
"How did you get to Neverland?" She asks me and it doesn't surprise me she wants to know events around that period of time.
"I used Pixie dust." I try to keep it short but she wants to know more.
"How did you get the Pixie dust?" She asks me and I sigh in defeat.
"That is part of the story I am not yet ready to share."
"Fine." She is almost fuming with rage and yet I can barely contain my laughter. But I manage to keep a straight face. I don't want to upset her even further.
"What did you do before Neverland?"
"I owned several clothing shops across England. I also imported materials from all around the world. Hence, the Jolly Rogers." I tell her honestly.
"And I thought you were a pirate." She finally cracks a small smile because of her smart comment and I feel a little relieved.
"I am a man of many talents, love."
"That, I know, Mr. Hook." She gives me another smug smile and I shake my head with delight. "How old are you, James?" She continues her interrogation.
"With the years spent in Neverland, 46. I was 24 years old when I got to Neverland. How about you, love?"
"A gentleman should never ask a lady's age... at least that's what I read in one of your books." She continues her series of playfull smiles and comments and I finally relax as well.
"Pardon me, mylady."
"I'm... 44, I guess. It's hard to keep track in Neverland." She lifts her shoulders as she takes another grape and eats it.
"You don't look a day over 19... maybe 20." I tell her and she giggles.
"Well, Pixies don't age, I guess. All Pixies in Neverland have lived hundreds of years already. Our kind has lived there long before Peter. In fact, we are the ones responsible for bringing Peter to Neverland." She tells me and my heart skips a beat at this information.
"Really? And how did Peter get there?"
"He was an orphan, you know. He is... the Pixie that brought him, Rina, she was a nursing Pixie. She got bored of helping animals in Neverland and came to England to help the creatures here. She witnessed Peter's mother dieing at birth and became fond of Peter. She spent every day with him in the orphanage and when he turned 16 and they wanted to kick him out, she took him to Neverland." Her story brings a lot of light in my past experiences with Peter.
"That was maybe... 60 years ago. I only officialy met Peter when he asked for help to enlarge the tree camp. He seemed a very funny guy. They all did. And so I stayed around for the last 20 years or so." She finishes her story but by now, she is sad. I can see that she still doesn't feel comfortable talking about him.
"You know the rest." She finishes eating her grape and turns around to wash the bowl.
"Can I ask one more question?" I know I am pushing it but I need to know.
"Are all the kids he brings to Neverland orphans?""That is what Rini made him promise when he flew him to Neverland. Why?"
"I was just curious. That's all." I tell her as I wrap my arms around her waist.
"This is my house, you know. I was born in this small town. My father owned a fishing boat. He thought me how to sail." I tell her, wanting her to know more about me.
"And your mother?" She asks me with a soft smile on her lips.
"She was a seamstress. You can see how these things connect to what I used to do." I tell her jokingly.
"You are your parent's boy." She tells me and I smile knowing she is right. Well, apart for my vengeance quest. I don't know how my parents would feel about that.
