It was another late night that Alec decided to finally call the number. Between working on a couple new songs and family obligations, he had managed to push the strange girl, or Reyhan as her name was, completely out of his mind. Just like he had all those years ago. It was only when he was face-timing his sister earlier when he remembered.
He held the piece of paper in one hand, and the phone in another and dialed the number. It rang for a little while before she picked up.
A muffled voice could be heard and it was obvious someone was covering the phone. "This better not be a goddamn crime scene investigation at 11 P.M or I'm quitting."
Alec was amused.
"Hello?" Came her voice again, this time pleasant, but inquisitive.
Alec sat up. "Hey, this is Alec, from, umm, I guess everywhere?"
"Oh! Hi, Alec! I wasn't sure you'd call. I was wondering if I'd made a fool out of myself or something." Her voice was different on the phone he noticed. If anything, it was slightly comforting to hear her talk.
"Oh, sorry about that! I've been a little busy."
"No problem, work is work."
"So, are we going to talk about these coincidences, what are we even calling this?"
"Yeah, they're not really coincidences on my part, Alec."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, my interacting with you isn't a coincidence, because I knew you from school."
"I wasn't aware I went to high school with you! You're from Arizona too?"
She paused. "No...I'm from Providence. Rhode Island. I went to UCSF with you. You mostly sat right in front of me, but one day you sat beside me and gave my color coded notes a roll of your eyes. You know Alec, you don't seem like you have much of an attitude from your interviews but God are you sassy."
"No way." He sat up straighter as his mouth fell open. "How do you even remember that?"
"You're not forgettable, for one. Also I thought you were really cute."
He blushed. This girl was a little straightforward. "Oh thanks, kinda don't what to say."
She laughed. "Yeah, and then I saw you asking people if you could sing for them a couple times before I saw you at the deli."
"You did?" He was surprised. He wished he had just asked her instead of all those people who had rudely ignored him and walked away.
"Yep. When I saw that you were somewhat famous, I followed your success, and lo and behold, I went to that concert while I was in Korea."
"You went to Korea for my concert. I'm flattered."
"Actually, I was visiting my aunt. She's Korean."
"But what are these if not coincidences?"
"I don't know Alec. Maybe you and I are meant to be crime fighting BFF's and you just don't know it yet. Maybe this is why I switched from Pre-Med to Criminalistics."
He was the one to laugh this time. "Maybe so, this could be why I did martial arts for so long."
"See, I knew we were some sort of Batman and Robin duo!"
"I call Batman."
"Take him, at least Robin isn't emotionally stunted."
"Wow, that's an opinion."
"What? I have a soft spot for all the Batboys."
"You clearly follow DC way too much."
"I do. Hold on Alec I'm getting a call from the police department."
The call went on hold for exactly one minute and Alec realized that he quite enjoyed this conversation. She was funny, and maybe they were meant to be friends.
"Hey, Alec, that crime scene finally happened. I have to go, but I hope we can call again soon."
"Oh yeah, of course, I had a great time getting to know you."
"Me too. Oh, and Alec?"
"Yes?"
"I still think you're cute."
