Scarlett was sitting on her bed when she heard a noise coming from her bag. A day had passed since she had her new journal and it had gone silent. She hopped out of her bed and opened the journal to find a note before a piece of paper fell onto the floor.

Here is your first story from an alternate timeline. Here you are fighting a powerful magic user, and your goal was to capture him. Enjoy the story.  Scarlett picked up the paper that sat on the floor and began to read it.

"Dear Celeste, what have I gotten myself into?" Scarlett whispered to herself. On her way to the Arcane's headquarters, she saw the charred remains of their last fight. The images haunted her mind as she arrived near the building. She scanned the large house, looking for any way in. She briefly considered checking out the back door when her eyes focused on a large window with a drainage pipe near it.

"That's gotta be my way into the main hall! That glass looks like it's just waiting for my boot to smash through it." Her eyes followed the pipe, noticing it seemed to travel down into the small alley that separated the headquarters and a small two-story building. She jogged towards the alley, and stopped once she heard voices. Her nose wrinkled as she inhaled the smoke filled the air.

"You know that stuff kills you right?" Scarlett called out to them from around the corner. She then created a fireball and shot it down the alley. It hit one of the guards, knocking him back and singing his leather armor. The other guard dropped his cigarette.

"What are you doing? You can't be here!" The unharmed guard aimed his sword towards Scarlett.

"Don't you think I know that?" Scarlett unsheathed her blade, its flame illuminating the dark alleyway. The guard lunged towards her. Scarlett jumped to her side, avoiding the blade. She then swung her Blade of Incandescence and made contact with his armor. It easily cut through the leather, and the smell of burnt skin replaced the tobacco smoke. During the altercation, the guard that was hit with the fireball had recovered. He approached behind her, and Scarlett pulled her sword out of the other guard's dominant arm and spun around. The guard swung his sword and grazed Scarlett's arm. She winced in pain and fired a fireball towards his direction. The guard stumbled back. Scarlett jabbed her sword into his side. He groaned as the sword pierced his armor and dove passed his skin. The heat of her blade had cauterized his wound after it left his body, but it still caused him to pass out. The other guard switched his sword to his weaker hand and began to fight. Scarlett hurled a fireball at his sword, and it crashed to the ground. Scarlett charged towards him and harnessed her energy into a fireball. She fired a large fireball at him. It collided with him and he collapsed to the ground. She then quickly climbed up the pipe.

When she reached the top of the pipe, she looked into the room to see Jed having a conversation with someone Scarlett didn't recognize. She looked up to notice an ornate chandelier that gave the room a warm glow. It consisted of three metal rings stacked on top of each other that held candles. Each ring was smaller than the last. She swung off of the pole, with both feet pointed at the window.

With a loud crash, she burst into the great hall. Jed was in the middle of a heated conversation with someone, but he quickly fled to the hallway after Scarlett crashed.

"Oops, sorry didn't mean to barge in unannounced, but I mean how was that for an entrance? Pretty cool right?" Scarlett stood up and brushed the pieces of glass off of her body.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Jed aimed a hand at Scarlett and fired a ball of energy. It hit Scarlett, causing her to cringe at the pain.

"Hey, most villains and heroes have a little back and forth before the fight. But if you want to do it this way, then fine!" Scarlett charged a fireball and chucked it towards Jed. The fireball stopped right before it touched Jed's face and disintegrated. Jed laughed and fired another projectile. Scarlett managed to duck before it hit her, and it hit the wall behind her. The force of the projectile shook the ceiling, and a giant chandelier in the center of the room trembled.
