Matthew sat in his chair, he was silent during the whole meeting. He spoke few words to Russia; Matthew said nothing to the other countries (as usual). As the meeting drew to an end, Matthew stood up. "Well, I'd like to thank you all for coming today. I hope everyone has a safe trip home," he said as loud as he could speak. Matthew sat back down in his seat and watched the other countries leave. He gently rested his head on the desk in front of him; he felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked beside him, Ivan was still sitting there.

"Would you like to talk for a bit?", Ivan said smiling.

Matthew felt a weight on his heart. He looked down, did he want to talk? The real question is, why did Ivan want to talk now? "Uh...you could come over to my house and we could talk over some coffee?"

"I don't like coffee," Ivan said frowning.

"Tea?"

"Sounds lovely!"

"Um...would you like to ride with me...or meet at my house?" Matthew said blushing.

"If it's not too much of an inconvenience, I'd like to ride with you," Ivan said as he stood up.

Matthew stood up and started walking towards the door; Ivan and Kumajiro followed behind Matthew. Matthew opened the car door for the little polar bear, the bear climbed into the back seat of the car. Russia climbed into the passenger seat of the car and buckled up. The car ride was a silent one. The two sat in an awkward silence until they arrived at the smaller nation's house. Canada got out of the car and opened the door for the polar bear.

"Matthew," Ivan said softly, "why do you have a pet polar bear?"

"Because...I just do, okay? don't question it please."

Ivan chuckled softly and smiled. Canada blushed slightly, and walked to the front door. He quickly unlocked it, and was greeted with an unwelcome sight. Gilbert stood at the door with his bag, his face was flush. "Get. Out. Now...or else..."

"Mattie please...can we just talk abo-"

"I'm tired of talking. You messed up. You always mess up, and expect me to take you back. You broke my heart. You were so great at one time...but now look at you...please Gilbert, just go." Matthew growled.

"What if I don't..."

"I guess I'll make you leave then," Russia said, gently pushing Matthew out of the way.

Gilbert stood in fear for a moment. "Goodbye Mattie," Gilbert whispered as he walked past Matthew.

Russia slammed the door as Gilbert walked out. "So, how about we have some tea?", Russia said smiling. He and Matthew walked to the kitchen. Russia sat at the table and waited for Matthew to sit down.

Matthew handed Ivan a cup, and sat down gracefully. He took a sip of his coffee, and looked up at the larger nation.

"Matthew, did you ever love that idiot?"

Matthew looked into Ivan's eyes. He sat in silence for a moment before he finally spoke. "At one point...I thought I was in love with him. I thought I loved him...for the first month...but then things changed He wasn't gentle and sweet anymore...he was so mean and rude. He always acted like everything was my fault...He treated me like I was worthless...but I stayed with him. There were time where I would have rather died than be with him."

"Oh Mattie...."

"We were so wonderful...but he changed...he became an asshole. He wouldn't let me spend time with my friends. He wouldn't let me express myself. He wanted to know where I was 24/7. He tore me down and ruined my beliefs. He even tried to cheat on me with my brother..." Matthew looked at his cup.

"You don't need that in your life. You don't need an asshole like him," Ivan said as he wiped a tear from Matthew's face.

"I'm a hopeless romantic that's afraid to fall in love. I've only seen bad relationships...I've never seen a healthy one...I want to be in love but God I'm scared. What if I fall so deep in love...but then the person just leaves. I'm so scared I'll get hurt. I've never let anyone see the true me...." Matthew cried softly. "Sorry...I'm being depressing."

"Will you stop that please...Matthew it's okay. You're pretty great. Or at least, that's what I think. I'd love to see the real you..."

"No....you really don't want that...I'm a mess."
