The New Kid

The explanation

Cameron's POV

What is happening to me.Why am I acting so weird about this I want to happen,but why can't I accept it.I wanted to respond to Hayes' DM but I couldn't bring myself to do it.I laid in bed until my mom came in.
mom:"are you feeling better."
Me:"No but I should be fine by Monday."
Mom:"Ok,you need something I'm going to the store."
Me:"uhhhhh....can I go with you."
Mom"sure."
Now I have something to keep me distracted for an hour or so.I threw on some sweats and a sweater.I spent the time in the car scrolling through my feed until we got to the store.I knew what I wanted at the moment some ice cream to drown all these thoughts with.I walked behind my mom into the store until she abruptly stopped and turn to look at me.
mom:"you should of stayed home if you are sick."
Me:"I'm fine just a little under the weather."
Mom:Well ok,let's split here you go get what you want,and we meet up by the the fifth cash register."
Me:"good idea."
she walked off with a kart and I made my way to the refrigerator section.This had been my third time to the grocery store since I got here so I just knew where to go for my personal needs.I went through the snack isle to see if anything else was good to take with.I looked as I walked.Nothing caught my attention it all just looked fattening.I made it to the ice cream section to grab my favorite one Rocky Road.I made sure to grab the biggest tub there was just in case.I was making my way back to the snack isle and then someone caught my attention.None other than Hayes well that's a big old coincidence I thought as I kept on walking.He was trying to grab like 6 different chip bags the he stopped and turned to my direction.
"Shit,"i mumbled as I started to walk a little faster to get past him.
"Cameron ...wait,"Hayes quickly tossed the chip bags on the shelf and positioned himself in front of me blocking my path.
Me:"get out of the way."
Hayes"no."
I stayed quiet.
Hayes:"why haven't you messaged back."
Me:"didn't notice you did,"I quickly lied and it hurt me.
Hayes:"well you can't be gone for three days and expect everyone to not be worried and ask about you".
Me"yeah,I know guess I was that sick."
Hayes:"I want to say sorry for what happened in the restroom".
My heart sunk and i gulped."it's fine"I responded.
Hayes: "Is it really cause it sure doesn't look like it."
Me:"Yeah it's fine gosh."
Hayes:"I honestly don't know what had gotten into me at that time."
Me:"well it happened and I'm ok with it I forgive you."
Hayes looked at me semi shocked and confused and stuttered,"r-r-really."
Me:"Yeah it's not like it's been the first time I've been kissed."I lied I've only been attracted to people,but I never gone out with someone.
Hayes:"Well now that we gotten this cleared up hope you feel better"he said kindly with his blue eyes shining and a cute smile on his face
Me:"thanks,I guess"I turned away to hide my blush and try to play it off,but Hayes walked to the shelf and grabbed the chips he had tossed.
Hayes:Well see you back at school."
Me:"yeah,"We both started walking towards the direction of the cash register which was hella awkward.Once there we both started to head to the same line.I looked up ahead to see my mom talking to another lady.
"Mom I got them,"I hear Hayes blurt of from a couple steps behind me.The woman that was talking to my mom turned and look at our direction.You got to be kidding me seriously I thought in my head.We both approached our mother which stood next to each other.Hayes mom was first to speak.
Hayes Mom (H.M.):"Do you know each other Hayes"she looked back and forth to each of us.
He quickly responded with a "yes,"and then he turned to me and I nodded in agreement.
my mom spoke up,"well would you look at that we made some friends and they happened to be a matching pair"she said in a joking way.
H.M.: "so true haha...you know what since the kids already know each other do you think they could be a study group"
My mom: "Great idea Cameron has missed already three days since he's been sick he could really use the help."
H.M.:"poor boy hope he feels better,Hayes would it be ok with you if you helped him?"
Hayes made very brief eye contact and responded with a,"Sure."
I wasn't about to make my mom mad by saying no so I forced myself to say ,"awesome and a thanks."
This was going to be torture for me and Hayes cause we are in a awkward time.
After we finished paying and everything we said our goodbye to Hayes and his mom and left.
I can't wait I thought to myself.
