"(y/n), it's your turn again." the red skinned lady across from you snapped her fingers gently to gain your attention. the forgotten chess game sat on the coffee table between you two. "hey, you still there?"
you tore your eyes away from the closed window to your right and back to your therapist ms.kubo. her wire framed glasses sat low on the bridge of her nose as she stared across from you in worry. you twirled the top of the forgotten glass queen between your index finger and thumb.
"hm? oh, sorry i got distracted again." you smiled brightly towards her, making a small frown etch onto her face.
"right... you start your first day at u.a. in two days. is that correct?" you moved the queen forward diagonally 5 spaces, capturing the rook the protected ms.kubo's king piece.
"checkmate! yes ma'am, that's correct." you smiled softly before glancing at the clock behind you. '15 minutes left.' you and your therapist started to gather the chess pieces to put up.
"why do you always try to take out as many pawns as out can first? the pawn isn't that powerful." ms.kubo's gentle voice caused you to look up at her.
"individually the pieces aren't that powerful. however, in a large number they could easily overthrow the king. or the queen." all of the pieces had been collected and placed back into it's container.
ms. kubo looked at you, a smile graced her soft lips. "yes, the pawn represents the everyday worker. he makes up the majority of the society but is often over looked. he's generic, but he builds the paths we walk on. you're right about their power, bosses can fire workers but workers can strike." you nodded in agreement as she reached over beside the chair, and picked up a new notebook. it's cover was gold, just like your eyes.
"can you do something for me?" you nodded your head as she held the empty journal out towards you. "every time that you feel scared, threatened, anything of that sort, write down what happened before those emotions took over."
confusion washed over your face as you slowly took the gold book from her. "why would i write down when i feel that way? why not whenever i'm happy?"
"chess is a war game, (y/n)." a sad smile took over her face. "you're awfully good at it."

your brows furrowed as you looked at the screen in the basement. team a and d's match had finished a while ago. the ferocity that was displayed pulled at something in your chest. to make matters worst, that zuko looking motherfucker just froze the whole building, most definitely securing his win.
