The sun peeked through the windows of Cabin 3, spilling light into my room. Ever since the end of the war, sleep and I have had a love-hate relationship. Unlike Nico, I prefer being rested up. But, since Tartarus, I've seen my little cousin's argument for why sleep is overrated. Nightmares are a bitch. Groaning, I reluctantly get up from the comfort of my bed. I looked around the room, taking in the memories. The Minotaur horn still hung proudly over my bed, the trophy of my first victory. Looking at my bedstand, I spot the photo that was taken a month after the end of the 2nd Giant War as it's come to be called. There was Reyna, Thalia, Leo, Piper, Hazel, Frank, Nico, Jason, Annabeth, and myself. My smiled dimmed as I looked at the face of Jason. His death hit all us pretty hard. When I got the news, I nearly went up to Olympus myself and cussed out Zeus. Tyson was barely able to keep me still as my outbursts caused a 5.0 earthquake. I only stopped as I let myself cry for the first time in a very long time. I still get looks now and then from people, scared of another demigod fueled outburst.
But, I was especially distraught when I learned of Piper, who fell into a deep depression and nearly killed herself. She's currently being looked after in New Rome. It's the least the Romans could do for us since we saved the world.
As for me, I've finished my Senior Year with flying colours and the college at New Rome is offering Annebeth and I full rides as rewards for our roles in ending the war and ending the feud between the Greeks and the Romans. When my Mom heard, you could've heard the yell of "Ave Romana" from Olympus.
But, it's not like I could be excited. Ever since the war ended, Wise Girl and I have kinda been falling apart. Her work as the Architect of Olympus has only grown with her finishing Jason's work of building the Temples for the Gods and finishing the rebuilding efforts on Olympus itself. Between that and my push to finish my senior year, we haven't had the time to see each other as much as we used to.
Sighing, I made sure that the lock was secure on the door, slipped off my clothes, and pulled the salt water out of the fountain. Being fresh sea water from the ocean, the salt water does a better job at killing bacteria than soap and water. After the deep scour from the sea water and washing myself off with lake water, I felt better. Pulling on my jeans and a clean CHB shirt, I put on my Nikes and stepped outside. Why Nikes? I wanted to make sure that I never offended the Victory Goddess anytime soon.
Thanks to the fact that I never have to fight for the showers, I always get to come to breakfast good and early. Sitting down to a hearty breakfast of blue waffles and fruit, I scraped some of the food into the brazier and offered a silent prayer to my dad, Poseidon, asking for relationship advice on how to forward. Normally, I would go to the Aphrodite Cabin for such advice. But, with Jason's death, I've been giving Piper plenty of space to grieve and like fuck I will trust anything that Drew says. I swear, her ass and her mouth must've switched places at some point because the only thing Drew is good at is spewing shit.
Looking up from my food and thoughts, I saw Annabeth walk into the Pavilion, Daedalus' laptop in hand. Athena recovered it as a favour for her favourite daughter. I got up and went over to her.
"Hey Wise Girl." I said, smiling.
"Hey Seaweed Brain." Annabeth said, distracted.
"What are you up to?" I asked, a little excited. Despite not going on any dates during the summer so far, I want to make an effort to change that.
"I'm sorry Percy", she said in a tone that didn't sound very sorry, "But I don't have anytime. I have to finish these temples right now and I still have to get back to Ares' design feedback on his new statue. Plus, I'm still having problems getting the Obsidian for Hades' temple on Olympus." With that, she ordered her food and after scraping a sacrifice off, took her breakfast to go.
