Long ago, there was a kingdom that existed among shadows. This kingdom aided in the balance between Light and Dark. This balance was maintained by a magical fountain in the center of the kingdom, The Fountain of Darkness. This kingdom was once ruled by four noble kings.
First, there was the King of Diamonds who ruled over the Rudinns, a tall and noble leader who wasn't afraid to show off. The Rudinns were known for their pride and knowledge of agriculture. They would work to grow food and deliver to the kingdom and it's subjects.
Then, there was the King of Hearts who ruled over the Hathys, a young and quiet spoken emperor. The Hathy race was known for their magical properties. They used their magic to keep harmful elements at bay and heal those who were sick or wounded with spells.
Next, there was the King of Clovers who ruled over the Clover race, a vigorous and demanding monarch. His subjects, the Clovers, were once known for their physical capability. Clovers were often recruited to be part of the royal guards, but could also be seen commonly performing acts of strength for entertainment.
Finally, a King of Spades, who did not have many subjects to rule. Instead, he was in charge of managing the alliance among the Rudinns, Hathys, Clovers, and other races. The King of Spades was known across the land as a peacemaker.
One day, there was a visitor known as the Knight who visited Castle Town. Not much is known about this Knight, however, this caused The King of Spades' heart to turn bitter. The Knight had created a second fountain of Darkness so that the King of Spades may use its magic. The King of Spades used this magic to overthrow the kingdom and lock the three kings away, crowning himself as the new King.
The new King used his new found monarchy to force half the population of the Rudinn and Hathy race to build a new castle, known as Card Castle, for him, and forced the two races to become part of his new royal guard. The King had locked away the Clovers as well, as he was afraid their brute strength together could aid in him being overthrown.
The King's goal was to keep the second Fountain of Darkness safe, so that it may cause an imbalance between Light and Dark. If this happens, the world will be shrouded in darkness, and Darkeners will become the ruling race.
Because of the overzealous actions of the King, essential duties kept in check by the Rudinns and Hathys began to go neglected. Major crop shortages struck the land and left many of the denizens in a famine. The quality of the Hathy's magic plummeted rapidly as well.
The King and his paranoia only got worse, this new king cared very little about his subjects. His negligence would prove to be a poor choice when the escape of a once highly guarded prisoner takes place.

The prisoner in question was a former jester for the four kings. Numerous accounts claim that this jester had changed when he met "a strange someone". The jester started to see the world as nothing more than a game. Just before Card Castle was built, the jester was banished to a cell far away from Castle Town. A companion of this jester, the court magician, had locked the jester away.
Once the jester was locked away, it is said that he fell into a deep slumber for 100 years. Hathy guards were needed to protect the cell from any magical ailments coming in or out of his cell.
With the recent events, it seems that the jester has awoken from his deep slumber around the same time as the King of Spades overthrew the now three former kings. With Hathys no longer guarding his cell, and a new Dark Fountain, Jevil the jester will now be able to plan his escape and force his unwilling participants to play his game.
