The walk to the base was significantly less dramatic than the conversation that led up to the two of them walking to the base. The author of the book was also really trying to get a higher word count because chapter. Don't question me.
Lance's feet were starting to really ache when Keith finally stopped walking.
"Welcome to Atlas."
"Keith, that's a wall."
It was a very nice wall. It seemed to be a part of a tall bridge that led over a road. The bricks that made it up were gray and chiseled, what Lance imagined a fairy tale castle to be made of.
"It's a special wall." Keith ran his fingers delicately across the bricks.
"I guess?" Lance had serious doubts. Suddenly, Keith turned to Lance and grinned, pushing a protruding stone back into place.
The bricks surrounding it in a large rectangle instantly dropped, apparently disappearing into the ground, revealing a small room behind them.
"Don't get lost," Keith said, stepping inside.
"I don't think I-" the wall slammed back into place behind Lance, who'd followed Keith into the room, which was apparently actually an elevator, as it was now moving very quickly downward.
It slowed to a stop and the back wall lifted, leaving an opening which Keith strode through. Lance kept as close as he could, but found himself distracted by the busy rooms around him. There were strange machines laying in pieces, windows looking into rooms lined with equipment, and other things Lance couldn't hope to describe- it looked like a scene out of Spy Kids.
"Before we get where we're going I should explain a bit." Lance blinked in surprise. He hadn't realized his guide had slowed his pace to walk side-by-side.
"Okay."
"First, don't use my name or yours. Probably I shouldn't have even told you my name, but from now on I'm Red."
"Ooh, you use codenames? Fancy."
"Second, this is serious, so don't make me regret bringing you here." he gave Lance a pointed look.
"Sorry."
"Third, the people here are members of the Voltron Coalition. It's named after a warrior from an old story that you should probably hear from a better storyteller than me. We're a sort of secret service- the government knows we exist but doesn't do much about us so we assume they're ok with it."
"Got it."
"And finally, the group that blew up the library are called the Greater Alliance of Lexicalised Radical Arcanum, or GALRA, which made a lot more sense when they were just a cult instead of a terrorist organisation."
"Ok i think i got the general idea of what you just said, but I'm not sure it was all English, so i might have missed a part."
Keith sighed.
"The GALRA are the bad guys."
"Thanks."
"Great, wait here."
Keith smoothly pulled open one of the doors and entered the room behind it.
"Where's Allura?"
"Oh, hi Red." Lance could see part of the speaker's small frame from his spot behind the door. "I'm not sure. Shiro's working a few doors down though."
"Why do you need her?" This wasn't Keith's voice, however, it was more masculine than the first one. There must have been a third person in the room.
