The elevator ride was silent. Yoongi busied himself with his cellphone while Namjoon tried his best not to glare. The omega was shaking with anger by the time they arrived at the car. Everything about Yoongi's behavior was irritating him.
The alpha's attitude was so confusing. One second he was cold and disregarded Namjoon, the other he was smiling and scenting him as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
The worst part was that Namjoon did the same. It was as easy for him to forget the reality of their marriage as it seemed to be for Yoongi and he hated it.
Jungkook was waiting for them near the car. His body visibly stiffened at Namjoon's presence. His nostrils flared up causing the omega's cheeks to flush pink once more. Despite his attempt to calm himself down, Namjoon knew that his scent was betraying his arousal. It was bigger than him. Yoongi was surely irritating, but he affected Namjoon that the omega couldn't fight. And the scenting session did not help his case. He averted his eyes, playing with the buttons of his shirt to avoid looking at Jungkook. The situation was embarrassing enough to admit to himself. He wasn't ready to also acknowledge that the young alpha was a witness to his walk of shame. All he wanted being for the night to be over so he could go back to effectively ignoring his husband.
He heartedly hoped that the day was nothing but a nightmare that would end soon, and that he would wake up the next day cured of whatever madness made him think of Yoongi as anything else but an unfortunate roommate.
The car ride should help take his mind off things. At least it wouldn't be Yoongi and him alone together. He could use some emotional support from Jungkook. Namjoon walked past both alphas to reach the car door. He ignored Jungkook's clenched jaw as he came closer and Yoongi's shit-eating grin. He focused on tuning down his fight or flight instinct instead. If he wanted his scent to go back to normal, he would have to free his mind of everything else. The last thing one wishes for their reputation was to appear at a function while smelling of arousal. Namjoon already had enough on his plate to deal with as it was.
As Jungkook gestured to open the backseat door for Namjoon as he usually did, Yoongi took a step to stand between them before offering his hand to the omega. The latter frowned at the action.
'I'll drive myself.' The eldest of the two alpha said, his voice cold and eyes piercing through his assistant in a way Namjoon had never seen before. 'You can have the rest of the night, Jungkook.'
There was venom in the way he said the young man's name. Namjoon shot an apologetic look in Jungkook's direction, his heart sinking when he saw the expression on the alpha's face. He looked like he had been stabbed in the heart and Namjoon couldn't help but feel guilty for what happened.
The drive to Yoongi's parents was quiet. Just the sound of music playing on the radio. Namjoon had his thighs pressed together, head resting on the window while he tried to distract himself from the hand Yoongi had on the steering wheel. His little solo session was suddenly coming back to him. Now, in addition to being curious about what the alpha's hands would feel like around him, he wanted to be held by him. A wave of warmth seized him, causing him to let out a frustrated whine. Yoongi looked in his direction.
'Is everything okay?' The alpha asked nonchalantly.
Namjoon only fell deeper into his seat, carefully avoiding to look back at the alpha.
'Are you going to tell me what bothers you?' Yoongi spoke again. This time he even dared to sound annoyed. Namjoon snorted.
'Why do you care?' The omega mumbled under his breath.
The silence fell on them once again, the music on the radio had stopped too. Namjoon felt his heart grow inside his chest, making it hard to breathe. All the emotions that have been going through his mind all day seemed to catch up with him. A tear threatened to roll down his cheek.
