Four
"So Alex, how about we go get something to eat and you can explain where the hell we start."
I'm starving and anything edible sounds absolutely amazing right about now.
"Sure." He shrugs in reply and we begin making our way to the door.
I rummage around in my pockets for my keys as we approach the car. Unlocking it I get in and toss my bag in the back seat so Alex has somewhere to sit.
As I start the car he gets in buckling up as I pull out of the factory parking lot. I decide to go to this cute little diner near my house that has really good burgers. As we approach a stop light I glance over at Alex to see him looking extremely uncomfortable. I can't help but chuckle at the sight.
"What?" He asks with a glare sent my way.
"Nothing, you just looked like you'd rather be anywhere but here."
"Well, my plan was to try and get you to help me. Never thought you would agree so easily so I didn't really think beyond much more than that." He replied with a shrug.
"It seemed like you were telling the truth and you looked like you really did care about clearing Logan's name as much as I do."
"I do."
After that conversation was pretty much non existent. But this time there wasn't really any tension in the air, a more calm feel fell upon us and the silence was nice.
We reached the diner and I quickly parked the car and locked it, practically running to the diner door. Alex jogged to catch up to me, amused at my enthusiasm. I sit at my favorite booth seat at one of the corners of the small place. Alex was just sitting down when my regular waitress, Rachel, made her way toward us with a hundred wat smile.
"Hey Li! Will you be having the usual?"
"Yup." I reply with a grin myself.
She's about to turn and leave but comes to a halt when she spots Alex sitting across from me.
"Oh who's this?" She asked with a sly grin. She probably thinks we're dating.
"Just a friend."
"Mmhm, sure." She says throwing a wink my way. I roll my eyes in response.
She turns to Alex, "And what will you be having?"
"Um, I'll have what she's having." He says not bothering to look through a menu.
"Sure, I'll be back in a jiffy!"
Rachel quickly scurries away and Alex stares in the direction she went.
"A jiffy? What is wrong with that woman?" He asks bewildered.
I laugh, that's pretty much everyones reaction to Rachel's peppy attitude. "Nothing at all, she's just a woman who loves her job a little too much."
He nods in agreement, "Way too much."
A few minuets of small talk later, Rachel makes her way to our table with the food. My stomach groans, as if knowing food is almost within arms reach.
"Here are two double cheese burgers with a side of curly fries and two chocolate milk shakes." She sets it all down and leaves with a smile.
"Didn't think you'd be a double cheese burger kind of girl." He says as i'm talking a huge bite of my burger.
I raise an eyebrow as I finish chewing. "Well then you thought wrong."
"Clearly." He states with a small smile then starts eating.
Once we've finished with the food, we tackled the rest of our milkshakes.
"Man that was so good." He moans while rubbing his stomach, laid back with his eyes closed.
"That's why I come here. Some of the best food around." I say in between slurps of milkshake.
He opens his eyes and looks right at me. "We should come eat here again."
We stare at each other for a few seconds then I break out into a smirk. "Are you asking me out already? We barely know one another."
He recklessly tried to sit up, as his face breaks out in heat becoming slightly pink, and he quickly turns to look out the window while finishing his own milkshake. "Pff no! I was simply implying we come eat here again while we're working together to solve this mystery."
"Sure you were."
