City's P.O.V
"Felicity," my manager calls out my name and hands me the small white envelope containing my paycheck as I finish putting the last checks of the day into the computer. Looking down at the small piece of paper I feel proud that I successfully earned it, cause it's technically my first real paycheck. Three weeks at this job all coming up to Tuesday payday. "Thanks!" I nod to her. "You deserve it," she acknowledges as she walks away to give the other employees theirs. Finally changing out of my uniform and putting the clothes neatly into my locker, I slam it closed and make sure it's secure before checking out and walking though the break room and back into the busy restaurant, ready to go home to the girls.
We have really gotten into a pattern these past couple days, the girls and I. We get up, Beth makes lunches, Zam heads out first to catch her train, then Talia skateboards to the pier, then I usually bike or skate the few blocks to the restaurant and Beth and Kalie are last, locking up the house. We usually get home around five or six, all coming in at different times, and have dinner and usually chill down at the beach or just relax watching a movie, just spending time with each other. It's been really the same, nothing has really changed.
If you are wondering, I got the job a week after the interview and it has been busy, but really quite fun. My co-workers are tolerable and waiting tables isn't as hard as I thought, although I'm not always waiting on customers. Sometimes I'm clearing tables or washing dishes. It all depends on what need to be done and how many staff are working.
Making my way through the restaurant, I weave through the tables, my work clothes I changed out of stuffed into my backpack. I've changed out of the white polo shirt and skinny jeans and into my short light wash overalls, and a dark embroidered turquoise tank top underneath it. I was wearing dark tan wedges, but you can't skateboard in high heels, so I switch into my extremely worn grey Vans style shoes. Getting out of the dim building and into the sunshine is so relaxing as I get warmed up for the first time today; they always have the air conditioning super high in the restaurant.
Taking off my backpack, I get my skateboard out from inbetween the straps. Putting it down on the ground I keep my foot on it, preventing it from rolling away. I throw my backpack back on, centering it on my back, I feel grateful not to have my board resting in between my back and my bag. Pulling out my headphones, I shuffle my music and blast it so it's the only thing I can hear. I get on and slowly skate down the side walk, going slowly and trying to avoid the people coming in. Finally getting to a place where I can go a little faster, I push, bringing my foot back on the board as I glide peacefully down the sidewalk.
I get up the driveway just in time to see the sun setting before it gets dark. Opening the door I hear Zamira in her room and Talia watching T.V. She just nods to me as I walk up the stairs, not trying to talk to me with my headphones in. Beth and Kalie get home last. Getting into my room, I roll my board into my closet, hearing a thud once it hits the wall before I throw my bag and jacket onto my unmade bed.
Sighing, I stop my music and play it through my surround sound speakers in my room. I put my phone on the dock and I keep The City by The 1975 playing loudly in the large space. Instantly changing into some exercise shorts, I start to unpack, barely filling the large closet with my clothes. I forgot to stop at the bank on my way home so I'll have to do that later, I make a mental note, putting the paycheck on my bedside table. I can faintly hear the door open and close, letting me know that Bethany and Kalie are home. I get a little excited for dinner, my stomach growling on queue. Folding the last shirt, I get stuck in my thoughts. Today wasn't that busy, it was actually pretty enjoyable; all I really had to do was wait tables and help out in the kitchen once or twice.
"Hey what do you want for dinner?" Kalie yells through my music coming into my room and turning it down. I glare at her as she does. "I don't really care" I answer still organizing and unpacking. "Well okay" she shrugs and walks out, shutting the door behind her. I trudge over to the stereo system disdainfully, turning the volume loud enough so I can't hear my thoughts. The light in my room gets light and pink, giving everything a heavenly glow from the sunset. I open the balcony doors putting the sheer curtains over the space, and letting in the heat circulate, starting to feel the arctic air being replaced with the warm, humid air. Putting the last of my hair care products in my bathroom, I turn off the lights and switch off my music my room.
