"At least we'll be together," Lola Cashel muttered, sending rocks flying as she swung her legs under the swinging bench she was sitting on with her two best friends, Summer McLorn and Charlene (aka Charlie) Dixon.
"I guess," Summer said with a sigh, not showing much emotion. Charlene pounced on her.
"What is wrong with you two?" Charlene turned to her friends. "Don't you get it? We're moving to the other side of the country! We know no one. And unlike you two, I'm leaving tomorrow! I'll be there for a whole week before you both arrive!"
"Charlie, I'm so sorry," Lola said quietly.
"Have you asked your parents about riding with us instead?" Summer asked.
"I have." Charlene looked back down at her hands. "They said no."
"Well they don't know what they're getting themselves into." Lola kicked extra hard at the rocks under them and sent them flying back onto the bench. "We'll show them!"
Tentatively, the girls started giggling, then full on cracked up. The thought of Lola fighting someone was too funny not to. Then Summer whispered, "We'll never be here together again," and the moment ended.
