Day 1, 16/06/2020
5:35pm

"Hey, Jameson. Where you at?" Adam presses his phone between his ear and his shoulder as he shuffles out his front door.

"I'm about five minutes away. Would be three but I'm gettin' ALL the red lights!" James shouts into his phone. James' temper at minor inconveniences always made Adam laugh.

"Alright, that's fine. But you don't have to rush. We're not in a hurry to get going but we will be if you get held up by the police," Adam says.

James fakes a gasp, "Do you think I'm going to run a red light??"

"Yes, yes I do," Adam laughs. "Now focus on driving. I'll see you in a bit."

"Alright, see you," James responds, laughing too.

Adam shuts his phone off to save charge. As much as Adam is gonna enjoy James' company, he wishes he'd been a little better organised. He needs to be in Pennsylvania in 4 days for a family gathering to celebrate his birthday.

He would've driven himself but a few months prior uh... he sneezed on his windshield and crashed his car. He did book his car in with a mechanic for it to be fixed so it should've been fine, right? No. No, it was not fine. He wanted to save money but ended up choosing a pretty sketchy company. So now they still haven't fixed his car. And because he waited so long it became too late to book a flight.

He ended up asking his friend James if he can drive him. To Adam's surprise, James was pretty quick to agree. Which was honestly quite nice, considering there aren't many people willing to drive with you to the opposite side of the state for no reason.

Beep! Beep!

Adam looks up to see James in his shiny, blue Subaru, honking his horn with a smile. He picks his suitcase up off the ground and brings it to the back of James' car and into the boot, placing it next to James'.

"What's up, Jameson?" Adam smiles as he slides into the passenger seat.

"Nothing much. You ready for this epic road trip??" James asks with an enthusiastic grin.

Adam nods and smiles, knowing full well that this enthusiasm of his is gonna fade in a matter of hours. He gives James his brother's address, where the family is gathering, and James pulls back onto the main road.

"Awesome! Only 39 hours driving to go," James smiles widely.

"Yep. 39 painful hours," Adam rolls his eyes.

"Hey! It won't be painful," with a cocky smirk, James adds, "I'm here to brighten up the trip."

Adam laughs and shakes his head.

"Yeah, of course," Adam replies sarcastically, though he does agree. James is always able to brighten up a room, so there's no doubt he can brighten up a car.

After ten minutes of small talk on the freeway, Adam pulls out his phone.

"Can I play some music?"

James nods and hands him a cable to connect his phone to the car.

"I made a playlist of songs for us to listen to on the trip. Mind if I play that?"

James nods again, keeping his eyes on the road.

The first song that plays is Godzilla by Eminem, which Adam knows by heart. James taps his finger on the wheel while Adam effortlessly keeps up with the fast-paced lyrics. The song reaches the fastest part and even with it going 7 words per second, Adam doesn't get lost a single time. James' jaw drops.
