Day 2, 17/06/2020 - Adams birthday
7:20am

James groans as sun shines straight at his eyes, "No... go away sun," he mumbles groggily. He spends five minutes hiding under the covers until he ends up feeling awake and bored. Sighing, he swings his feet over the bed and looks around. It takes him a second for his eyes to focus but once they do he hops up and starts walking around. He doesn't have a specific goal, he's just up and wandering.

He spots the pull out coach and Adam sleeping, sprawled across it. He's snoring and muttering to himself. James can't help but chuckle. As he starts to walk off to find his phone he hears Adam shifting. He quickly freezes and turns around, hoping he didn't wake him. "Mm... mornin, James." Dangit. "Ah, sorry I woke yooouuuu-" James gets stuck with his mouth open as he stares at Adam. Or more specifically his chest. Now, James isn't gay.

But damn.

He knows Adam works out but he's never had a reason to be in the same place as Adam while he's shirtless. Meaning, he's never seen him his six pack that makes him look like a literal god. Well actually, he's seen him shirtless at beach day around Vidcon multiple times. But this time it feels different. Like it's more shocking? He has no idea why but he can't pull his eyes away. "James, you good there?" James quickly looks behind him for his phone, "Oh yeah I was just..." he spots his phone on a small table and snatches it, "...trying to remember where my phone is! Aha..." Adam nods and stands up, stretching.

"I have a feeling my muscles are gonna ache all day cause of that coach." James immediately feels guilty for passing out on the bed so quickly. "Oh sorry! You can have the bed at the next motel." Adam smiles and thanks him before heading to the small bathroom to shower and change.

Once both of the boys are ready for the long day of driving ahead of them, they head downstairs and give the receptionist their key.

"So, Birthday Boy. Where are we gonna go for breakfast?" A confused look takes over Adams face for a second, "Oh wait! It's my birthday!" James chuckles and nods. "I mean I was just thinking McDonalds or something..." Now it's James' turn to be confused, "McDonalds?? On your birthday?? Not on my watch. There's gotta be a nice breakfast place around here somewhere." James grabs his suitcase and tosses it into the boot of his car. Adam does the same and shuts the boot closed. "Come on Adam. We're going to find you a nice breakfast."

They walk for a good ten minutes before stumbling across a small group of shops. "There! A pancake place. Wanna have pancakes?" Adam shrugs, "I'm honestly fine with McDonalds. That place looks expensive anyway." Ignoring Adams statement, James drags him to the restaurant and to a table.

They sit at the only available table, a small wooden table with two chairs facing each other. An unlit candle sits on the table next to a small jar with some flowers in it. So it's... you know... the kind of table you'd sit at with your significant other. Not your bro.

They sit awkwardly just looking between each other and the menus for awhile before a staff member comes over to them to take their order, "Hello, welcome to The Generic Fancy Pancake Shop. What can I get for you today?" James frantically looks down and picks the first thing he sees, "Uh... that one." James points at the first one on the menu. The waiter squints at the menu for a second before writing it down. "And for you?" Adam is a little more organised, "The Devonshire Pancakes plea-" "Wh- dude come on! Get something more interesting than pancakes with cream and jam! It's your birthday get whatever you want!" Adam shot James a look and mouthed 'money.' "I'll pay. Just pick something!" Adam shook his head. Welp. Guess James needs to take things into his own hands. "He'll have the Blackforest Cherry pancakes." The waiter smiles at their bickering and writes it down.

As the waiter walks off Adam glares at James, "James! What the heck?? That one was twenty bucks!" "You can't tell me you don't want it though." Adam avoids eye contact for a second, "Okay fine maybe it does look delicious. But it's so expensive!!" Shrugging his shoulders, James folds their menus up and pushes them to a corner of the table. "You're not paying for it though. I don't see the problem." "You're paying for it! That's my problem! I don't want you spending money on me." Adam turns his head from James. It takes James a second to realise Adam isn't completely joking. "Why wouldn't you want me to spend money on you? Especially considering it's your birthday." Their conversation goes quiet.

Adam sighs, "Cause I'm not worth it. I don't want you wasting money." Shock coats James' face. Did he really just say that? It's so... sad. "Hey," James leans across the table and pushes Adams face to look at him. "It's my money and if I wanna spend it on the loveliest person I know then I will. It isn't a waste when I get to see you happy eating those pancakes instead of the dull ones you were gonna get." James leans back and sits down. Adams gaze is set on James as his heart beat speeds up. What's this feeling? It's almost as if he's flying. Like he's been overtaken with pure joy and nothing can bring him down. Is he high? Is there something in the water!? "The... Blueberry Heaven and Blackforest Cherry pancakes?" James nods and directs the waiter to who's is who's while Adam worries about what's happening to him.

They both eat their pancakes in silence. After a while of eating, whatever was happening to Adam wears off. He still has no clue what happened but it's fine. It won't happen again he's sure. "Hey, Adam. Can you eat those pancakes any faster?" James jokes sarcastically. Adam looks up with syrup at the corners of his mouth, immediately making James laugh. Adams cheeks warm up a little. He hastily licks the syrup away. "I-I..." Adams voice cracks as he tries to say something, "Aha- sorry. I dunno why my voice just did that-" James stifles his laughs with his hand. Watching his friend this pointlessly nervous is pure comedy.

After the most confusing meal Adam has ever endured they leave the restaurant to head back to the car. Adam still has thoughts running wild about what had happened. Why did he get so randomly nervous? This hasn't happened before so he doesn't understand why it has now. "Alright, Birthday Boy-o." James opens the passenger seat door for Adam. "Oh, no I should drive. I only drove for, like, two hours yesterday." A glare is sent to Adam, making chills run down his spine. "O-okay fine then..." He shuffles into the passenger seat and pulls his seatbelt on.

"Alright, day two of endless driving is a go! Birthday addition!" Adam smiles and watches out the window. Trees speed by in a blur. His mind wanders as he thinks about anything that comes to mind. Like how Thurnis and Chunkers are going. Are they being well looked after by the dog sitter? What if the person he hired to look after his dogs was some maniac that has already burnt down his new house and taken his dogs? Where would they go? What if they smuggled his dogs into Disney Land? Adam doesn't think Chunkers would like that. He doesn't like being lifted too high up so imagine how scared of rollercoasters he'd be. Or would he be more scared of a haunted house? What would Chunkers look like as a human? Maybe he'd have glasses... and a sweater. Yeah that'd be cute. Maybe Adam should by Chunkers a dog sweater when he gets back. If Chunkers was a human and went to school, what would his favourite class be? Probably math. He seems like he'd be a nerd. Just like Jameson. They're both so cute. In their own ways of course. Chunkers is a dog and James is a human. A really cute human at that. Wait why was he even thinking this? Where did this train of thoughts even stem from in his brain? Not even I, the narrator (yes hello how's it going?), knows what's happening in Adams brain right now. Okay that's I lie I just wrote that from my own brain. Anyway, you don't care about what my brain thought up. Back to Adam and James. Adam discreetly covers his left cheek so James can't see the red slowly creeping up. He really needs to figure out what's happening.

"You're being awfully quiet," James comments in a quiet voice, "Got something on your mind?" "Oh uh... Just thinking about how the dogs are doing." Not a complete lie, but not a complete truth either. "Don't worry, Adam. The same dog sitter looked after Floof while I was at Vidcon last year. She was very nice and Floof was fine." Adam just nods, pretending that's the only thing bothering him.

Another five minutes of silence goes by. "Okay, it's clearly not just the dogs that are bothering you." Shoot. James is onto him. "I-I don't know what you're talking about." James sighs, "I think I know what this is about." Double shoot. Here comes the rapid heartbeat again. "You're clearly afraid that you're getting older." Adam blinks a few times. "No I-" Wait what am I doing? This is a free excuse, He thinks to himself. "I mean... uh y-yeah! You know me so well." He chuckles awkwardly and scratches the back of his hand. "It's okay, Adam. I totally get it but I'm here for you." Pushing his nervousness down, he changes the subject, "Thanks, James. Mind if I play one of Bo Burnham's shows? Maybe 'what'?" James nods and passes Adam a cable.

Only a couple seconds into the intro song, Adam starts smiling. Bo is really on a whole other level of comedian. Adam, having watched the full show on YouTube multiple times, is singing and talking along doing all the mime jokes Bo did in the actual show. James knows some of the songs lyrics and sings along with Adam whenever he can. Adam was able to forget about whatever was happening, feeling much better.
