Ever since they were little, Stiles and Lydia had always been something. They were best friends when you were required to be friends with everyone, and in kindergarten, they spoke to only each other. When first grade rolled around, they became self-proclaimed best friends. By fourth grade, they realized they loved each other in a special way. A way the title "best friends" didn't cover. So, they started "dating".
Over the summer between 10th and 11th grade, Lydia changed. She became taller and thinner, replacing her glasses and unkept hair with perfect eyes and soft, flowing hair. Her strawberry blonde locks were now frequently let down, as opposed to being in some form of ponytail or bun. Her graphic tees and Harry Potter sweaters were replaced with floral dresses and light blouses, her sweatpants being replaced with short skirts and yoga leggings. She started wearing makeup, not that she needed it. Her sketchers were replaced with pumps. Here acne cleared up. She looked like a runway model. And you bet Stiles noticed.
On the first day of school, Stiles' jaw practically dropped when he saw her. She squealed (something she never did), and jumped in to his arms. Since Stiles had gotten taller and filled out more (although you'd never be able to tell from his baggy shirts and hoodies), he was able to catch her with ease. He put her back on the ground, looking her up and down. "You look...I mean...you're...wow," he said, struggling with words. She giggled and shrugged him on the shoulder. "Awe, thanks. But you, you look amazing! I mean, you're taller than every other boy!" Lydia exclaimed, gesturing to all the guys staring at Lydia with open mouths. Of course she was oblivious. Stiles blushed at the compliment. "Yeah...Scott dragged me to some workout things cause I wanna actually play this year," Stiles said, looking at the floor. Lydia gave him a reassuring smile. "You will play this year, count on it," She said, giving him a cheesy thumbs-up.
Just then, Scott walked up, giving Stiles a slap on the back and turning to face him. Kira came right after him, her small, delicate figure being overshadowed by Scott's large and muscular one. Kira faced Lydia and greeted her with a smile, but that smiled soon turned to astonishment as she took in Lydia's improved appearance. Kira lightly tapped Scott on the shoulder so he would turn around. Scott looked down at Kira. "What's up baby?" He asked her. Kira gestured with her head to Lydia, who now had her hands on her hips, annoyed that she was being treated like a museum exhibit. Scott hooted and Lydia raised an eyebrow. "Wow Lyds! You really ah...changed?" Scott said, more confused than anything, but of course still loving her appearance (you can't stop teenage boy hormones). Lydia shrugged. "Yeah um...I guess? I just decided to try something new, it's no big deal," she said, looking to Kira as a desperate attempt to talk about anything else. "So Kira! How was Brazil?" Lydia asked, disregarding the boys' stares. Kira lit up, excited to finally be a part of the conversation. "It was great! The beaches were to die for!" Kira replied. Lydia nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah I'll bet!" So she kindly. Kira beamed.
Kira and Lydia weren't exactly friends, but they found themselves hanging out a lot due to how close Scott and Stiles were. Even though they weren't that close, they knew all of each other's secrets. Boys tend to gossip more than girls. So, they rolled with it. Having a makeshift therapist in your back pocket can be very useful. Especially when you feel overlooked, something that clearly wasn't an issue for Lydia anymore.
Just then, the eyes whipped in a different direction. Scott slapped Stiles' shoulder, signaling him to look. Standing by the door was, quite possibly, the most outstanding girl to ever exist. With her wavy brown hair and her hazel eyes, she put every other girl to shame. Except Lydia. But Lydia wasn't jealous, she was fascinated. She walked right over to the girl and stuck her hand out. "Hi! I'm Lydia. Lydia Martin," she said. The girl chuckled. "Allison. Argent. I'm new," the girl said. Lydia nodded. "I figured," she said. Allison looked around. "So...everyone is staring. How do I react? Bite their heads off or kill 'em with kindness?" Allison asked. Lydia giggled. "You're really funny! How about you come hang with me and my friends?" Lydia asked. Allison nodded. "Sounds great," Allison said. Lydia took Allison's hand, causing Allison to gasp and jump back. Lydia looked at her in shock. "Are you ok?" Lydia asked. Allison nodded. "Yeah...I just don't like being touched. I just...nevermind. I just can't do the hand-holding thing, ok?" Allison said. Lydia nodded. "Got it," Lydia said, her dimples showing. She just simply gestures for Allison to follow her, and she did.
Once they arrived at the little huddle that was Stiles, Scott and Kira, they halted and Lydia put another smile on. "Allison, meet Kira, Scott, and Stiles. Everyone, this is Allison Argent," Lydia said. Kira waved timidly, Scott gave a shrug in her general direction, seemingly much more interested in Kira, and Stiles just offered a casual "hello". Allison smiled and nodded at them.
"So...how long have you been here Allison?" Scott asked, breaking the silence. Allison shrugged. "About a week or so. The only people I know are the mailman and the store clerk," Allison joked, running a hand through her dark hair. Everyone nodded. Allison turned to Scott. "So, how do all of you know Lydia here?" Allison asked. "Well...I'm Scott's girlfriend, Scott is Stiles' best friend, and Stiles and Lydia are basically married at this point," Kira joked. Lydia could see Allison shift her jaw as she heard that last part and frown a bit, but she covered it with a smile. "Well, that's great. I'm so happy for you and Lydia, Stiles," Allison said.
Stiles was obviously uncomfortable, but he gave a small nod. "Thanks, I'm happy to have her," he said. Allison turned to look at Lydia again. "I can see why," she said shamelessly, getting a blush out of Lydia. Kira cleared her throat, gaining back Allison and Lydia's attention. Scott was staring at Allison warily and Stiles has his eyes in Lydia, his lips pursed tightly.
Allison turned back to the group. "Anyways, it was nice to meet you all. I believe it's time for me to go find my class," Allison said, starting to walk away. Lydia grabbed her arm, almost instinctively. "I can help you find your class," she offered. Allison nodded and her smile came right back. "I'd like that...thank you Lydia," Allison said. Lydia let go of her arm and nodded, gesturing for Allison to follow her.
Stiles stared after Lydia and Allison with slight concern. He turned to Scott and gave him an alarmed look. "Did you notice something...I don't know...off about Allison?" Stiles asked. Scott shrugged. "Other than the fact that she's clearly interested in Lydia?" Scott asked casually. Stiles' eyes went wide. "Seriously?!" Stiles asked in bewilderment. Scott shrugged. "Looks like it. And anyways, there's a rumor going around that she's lesbian," Scott said. Kira perked up. "Maybe you should just ask Allison, if you're that worried about it," she suggested quietly. Stiles shook his head. "No, that would be rude."
Stiles looked at his watch and his eyes went wide. "Oh shit! Sorry guys, I gotta go," he said, running out the school doors. He always skipped first to go on his runs. And no, he definitely wasn't going on runs so he could see Derek Hale, definitely not...
