For the longest time I believed that the land beings were evil and heartless creatures.
I believed that if they found out about my kind they would kill all of us and even others from other pods.
My kind believes in a goddess with no specific name... She is the goddess of the moon.
She watches over us all and grants us our powers that saves us from humans. Sometimes she will even talk to us while we sleep. We deam her as a celestial mother figure who watches over us with the best interest in mind.
Though I had recently gotten a message from her...
She said I had to save someone... Someone who would be very important to me in the long run, someone precious who would love me and cherish me as much as the ocean did.
I didn't believe it at first and thought it was a test from my goddess, but she assured me that it wasn't.
Hearing that someone from land that would love me and cherish my existence as much as the ocean did made me happy, but also scared...
What will happen when I meet this human? Would I have to leave my home? Has this ever happened to any Mer in any pod? Will I die? How will this affect my life and my future? Will this human really love me? Will I even love them back?
All I know is that it's going to happen soon...

I swim down the coral reefs to my favorite spot to watch humans at a safe distance.
Even though I am weary of humans I also have a deep fascination for them as well.
Where are my manners, my name is Aqulita.
My kind don't have last names just a name and that's usually it.
My kind also doesn't wear clothes either... We are free beings who don't dwell with such things as clothes. Plus with the fact that our bodies have back fins and gills at our ribs make it extremely difficult to wear clothes because it would cut off our breathing as well is another factor as to why we don't wear clothes.
My kind mostly live in solitary within pods or living solitary as strays with no pod to go to.
Those with no pod to go back to usually don't live long though.
We have serpent like fish tails that come in different colors, sizes, and shapes. We also have fish like eyes, webbed hands, slimy and slippery skin, and sharp razor like teeth.
We are omnivores and we hunt and harvest for everyone not just for ourselves.
And repopulating... The males... Aren't gorgeous and sweet. They are slightly smaller and more fish looking than the females and when mating season does come around they can have more than one partner.
The reason being for this is because there isn't a lot of males to begin with. The females out populate the males by a long shot. Usually a pod will have 2 to 3 males and when breeding to repopulate and reproduce more offspring will be through the result of incest most of the time.
Most of the time females will reject the males because they don't want to reproduce which results in the males taking them by force against their will.
Which is also why I choose to go in hiding when mating season happens.
There were times when I couldn't find a place to hide from them... I'd rather not indulge you with such things... It's a very unsettling subject to some.
Back to the present time shall we?
I stare into the distance at a nice looking floating thing that looks huge. In it are a bunch of humans having fun listening to this thing they call music.
