The scorching sun is shining profusely, making today extremely blazing to the point that smoke almost wafts from my skin. The only thing protecting me is a pair of sunglasses that can only prevent the blinding ray from blurring my eyes.

"I hate the sun."

My black clothes make the matter even worse, for it absorbs the heat, capturing and trapping them inside, making my body uncomfortable.

Only if a vampire could sweat, then I would be drenched by now.

The fact that I can walk under the sun leisurely is one of the privileges of being turned by a high-leveled vampire. Unlike other low-levels, the sun won't have any effect on me. However, we are still not a fan of it.

It is in the nature of all vampires, after all. We haven't given the name 'children of the dark' for nothing.

I know I should hunt at night, just like the typical vampires' nocturnal hunting schedule. But I'd prefer this.

Why?

The answer is simple.

I want to act more human.

People work during the day and sleep during the night. Even if I can't change my body back into a human, at least, I can act like one.

After walking for quite some time, I realize that luck is not on my side today, for I haven't stumbled upon any hiker. There is neither sight nor scent that belongs to humans within the perimeter.

How frustrating! Does this mean I have to go down the mountain?

Just then, a rustling sound from behind makes me stop short. It is swift and light, definitely not the typical human's footsteps. Also, the wind that carries the scent from where the bush is disturbed does not belong to humans. I am sure of it.

Don't tell me...

I ready my fingernails at the thought, preparing to claw out the incoming approach of my kind as the bushes around me stir. When the sound gets louder, indicating that the presence is getting closer, I growl and turn towards where the wind is disturbed, arms raised, and taking a stance for battle.

"Wait!"

Although there is nothing within five meters radius of where I am standing, I hear a familiar voice.

"He's not human. He's one of us. But he belongs to the high level. You better not get close. The least we want is upsetting him."

The familiar voice continues to talk, and the bushes become still. A female's voice snarls in disappointment as she stops moving, leaving nothing but a mountain breeze to sway the bushes.

Looks like I'm not the only one who is on the hunt today. How unlikely to meet not one but two vampires in the area. I've never met one ever since I came here.

"Let's get out of here before he notices us, though I think he already is," says the same familiar deep voice that belongs to a male.

The more I hear his sound, the more I can't shake the nostalgia out of me.

Where have I heard this voice before?

"Thomas?" I take a guess and ask, loud enough for the wind to carry my voice to the other side.

The leaves on the ground sweep up in the air by a sudden gust of wind. Before they fall back to their original places, a male and a female figure standing right in front of me.

"Rylan?" says Thomas, a male vampire in dark brown hair and diamond face-shaped, looking at me in disbelief.

I nod as an answer to his question.
