y/n exhaled softly through her nose, glancing around the room carefully inspecting all the Hwarang boys.
"None of you passed the quiz yesterday," she said, gently running her fingers along the covered spine of her thin poetry book. They all remained silent, lowering their heads in utter embarrassment. "And I have to say I am quite disappointed that none of you take this class seriously.
"I don't like enforcing or promoting punishment, but this kind of behavior simply cannot continue. I understand that this particular subject does not spark an interest to you, but Wi-hwa wouldn't have hired me if he didn't find poetry important to Hwarang. If this wasn't considered necessary for you to study, I wouldn't be here right now! And I'm trying to make this enjoyable for you, but I can't do anything if you remain stubborn as mules.
"If you wish to graduate Hwarang, you must pass this class. However, concerning your present grades, none of you would want to be on the receiving end. They're pitiful. I grade you by you abilities and your attitude towards your work. And I'm sorry to say but it's bull crap. Absolute bull crap! You're all smart boys and quite capable of achieving passing grades. And I'm always here if you seek extra help. Or if you're uncomfortable with a one-on-one, you can ask your friend.
"The point I'm trying to make is these grades are inexcusable! I give you time to study and I certainly do not overburden you with work like Wi-hwa does. The deadlines are reasonable and if there is a problem with them, why remain silent? Explain your point, tell me if the assignments become burdensome. I'm sure I could work something out to keep you all content.
"I'm not here to torture you. Poetry is quite simple. I believe it is much simpler than the philosophy or the whatnot Wi-hwa teaches you; and I'm not making you memorize anything! I want to be your companion; not just your teacher. I care what happens to you boys. I know after yesterday's laps, you probably think very lowly of me or sadistically. I couldn't agree anymore; I didn't find it enjoyable to punish you. And I feel terrible by the end of the day.
"But if we're to continue this class, there will be some ground rules set. One of them being no unnecessary talking. I mean, what is up with the constant chattering in this class? I only have you for an hour a day and break being right after; can't you wait till then to talk? I enjoy discussions, don't get me wrong. And if we make progress in this study, I'll even permit group discussions concerning poetry. But there is a time and place for these things.
"If you respect my rules, I'll respect yours. That is a promise I will keep as long as you're subordinate to me. I respect those who deserve respect. Right now? None of you should be respected. Why? Because you don't show respect where it is called for. No one in this class acts as such with Wi-hwa as you do with me. Why is that? Is it because I am the only female teacher in Hwarang? Hmm....that seems to be the reason, doesn't it? Because I have certain feminine qualities, you decide to take advantage of it and walk all over me! No! I refuse to remain submissive! I won't tolerate any of this crap!"
The Hwarang boys blinked slowly, almost afraid to breathe. y/n coughed softly, trying to keep her anger in check, and recollected herself.
"I am willing to let bygones be bygones," she started again, shifting her position. "I will completely disregard your previous grades. Turn a new leaf. Start again. A second chance."
The boys all exhaled loudly in relief. Some highfived one another or commented cheerfully to their neighbor.
y/n couldn't help but smile gently. "Make it count this time," she announced in all seriousness, "And keep in mind, I'm not known to give chances—most of my previous students never needed it. Do not take it for granted, boys."
They all thanked her in unison, grateful for a second chance.
