Chapter 1
-Washington D.C.-
The U.S Secretary of Defense walked by the row of computers in the monitoring room. He saw something in the corner of his eye and backtracked and stopped at Smith's computer. He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Smith, what have I told you about not telling me about potential special threats?"
"Sorry Commander. But I already calculated the meteor's mass and I know that it's not going to make it past the stratosphere." The young Caucasian man beamed.
"Get me a satellite image of it." The Commander ordered the next man over while keeping an eye on Smith's radar.
"Sir, yes sir." The man said and quickly pulled up a live satellite feed and targeted the meteor. It looked normal until he saw that the surface was made of a black metallic coat and under the coat, flashes of light of all colors raged. It had many dents and holes as if this piece of space rock had been through hell just to threaten their planet.
"What in God's name...Anderson! Get a scientist in here, stat!"
A black intern nodded and dropped his clipboard and ran down the hall. He came back with an old Asian man in a white lab coat behind him.
"Dr. Zhang. Please tell me you can identify this thing."
The Asian man took off his glasses and cleaned them, then replaced them on his face and squinted at the screen.
"I know how my daughter would describe it." He said with a very thick Japanese accent, "She would say its unicorns fighting over the last cookie." He smiled absentmindedly.
Suddenly red lights flared in the whole building, and an automated voice calmly told the staff what the problem was.
"Warning. Warning. Meteor on collision course with this facility. Warning. Warning. Meteor on collision course with this facility."
The S. o. D. grabbed Smith by the front of his shirt.
"I thought you said it wouldn't even make it past the stratosphere!" He spat into the other man's face.
"I-It seems that the metallic coating is protecting it sir!!" Smith stammered.
Dr. Zhang pulled out his cell phone and dialed his house. Thankfully, his eight year old daughter picked up the phone.
"Hi daddy!"
"Hi sweetie. Tell mommy I won’t be home for dinner for a while. OK?"
"OK. Bye daddy. I love you!"
Tears came to the doctor's eyes.
"I love you too."
He hung up and looked at the radar on Smith's screen.
He sighed and then the explosion hit.
Dr. Zhang's final thoughts were,
"Had to be a Monday."
