Saad was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round and was the 43rd pick. He ended up being one of Chicago's top prospects and it gave him the biggest shot in being in the 2012-2013 roster for the big-league. From there, Saad was moved to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs which then fed into the Blackhawks. Saad proved that he was a deal to reckon with. He earned the title of CCM/AHL Player of the Week till January 13, 2013. Saad was later given a crystal-etched trophy at one of the IceHogs' home games. Brandon earned this title by earning six points in three games, including two game-winning goals. At the end of it, Saad earned 8 goals, 12 assist, and a total of 20 points. With all of what Saad had and showed, it earned him the spot in the starting line-up with the Blackhawks after the lockout.
