"Just like this I shall leave?
Like the flowers that perished?
Nothing remaining on my name?
Nothing of my fame here on earth?
At least flowers, at least songs!"
-aztec poem, written by an aztec emperor (huey tlatoani)
The citizens searched for Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl for weeks. The snow fell everywhere, such a strange thing, when they finally found them, in a clearing on a mountain. He was sitting in front of her, she, lying at his side. They were frozen still, and the people didn't want to separate them. The snow kept falling and the earth kept shaking until, one morning, they woke up to the sight of two volcanoes just where they had been.
One, with the form of a sleeping woman.
The other, with the form of a sitting man.
The rumor flew around, saying they were Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, their memory lived on through time. Citlatépetl died of guilt, and a hill occupied the place where he'd been, watching the couple from afar.
And once in a while, the Popocatépetl exploded, remembering the love of his life, waiting for the Sleeping Woman.

Such a sad/aww ending xD Anyways, this whole book is for @JaberaRahman, I'm thanking her for making me translate, for loving Popo, for not killing me when he and Izzy got engaged... woops. Picture of the volcanoes at the side :D
Random fact of the day: Popocatépetl's always exploding xD
