Annette's POV
The night is still young as I amble to the door. I ring the doorbell twice before it opens. Standing in the doorway is my dearest friend, Elise. She looks radiant in a bright yellow sundress.
"Oh Anne, you made it!" she exclaims.
"Of course I made it! What do you mean?" I ask her.
"Oh, nothing." she says with a bubbly smile,"Come in already! You're missing the fun. We just started a game of truth or dare- your favorite."
I smile back at her. She knows me a little too well. I hurry inside and glance around the room. Cole catches my eye and pats the seat next to him. I smirk as I make my way towards him. Maybe it's my unbearable attractiveness or my daring personality, but every boy wants to capture my heart. I take the seat next to him and Cole wraps his arm around me. I shrug it off and I can instantly feel the frown on his face. Honestly, though, I think it's a little too soon for a relationship between us. Before I know it, my turn to choose truth or dare comes. Everyone already knows my obvious choice.
"Dare," I state without hesitation.
The room goes silent for a moment. Everyone always wants to top the dare from before. Especially with me since I am a supposed 'dare-devil'. Finally, Cole speaks up.
"I dare you to go to the cemetary at midnight and stab one of the graves with this knife." he says holding up the knife we were going to use to cut the cake. I look at his face for any signs that show he is joking, but he looks dead serious. A smile creeps to my mouth and soon I burst out laughing.
"You couldn't possibly give me a harder dare," I start, the smile still evident on my face.
"Then, you'll take up the dare, I presume," he returns my smile.
"Yes, I'll do the dare." I say, still struggling to control my laughter.
I need to pull it together -now. I peer down at my watch and notice that it's still 11:15 PM. I have exactly 45 minutes to calm myself down. My mind wanders back to the dare either way. Why would Cole give me such an easy dare? He knows that I don't believe in all that supernatural rubbish. I know he's very superstitious, though, and I need to respect that. I really can't blame him. He literally lives a minute away from a cemetery. Even I would be slightly scared if I looked out my window in the middle of the night and saw a graveyard. Why waste the party thinking about this stupid dare? I push it away from my thoughts and move on.
-------------------------------------------------------
I am currently walking to the cemetery with Elise at my side. Apparentely, I needed a witness to prove that I did the dare. I really don't need a witness since I always do a dare, no matter what. Fortunately, Elise volunteered willingly to keep me company. The knife in my bag weighs me down a little. I think Cole went too far with the knife. The cake knife is really big and heavy, so I asked if I could take a pocket knife instead. Of course, nobody approved of my idea, so I am stuck with this knife. I come back to reality as we finally reach the entrance of the cemetery. Most people would be freaked out at this point, but me being a practical person, I'm not. I mean a cemetery is just a place that dead people are buried. Eventually, you too will die and, if you choose to, be buried in a cemetery. There's nothing to be afraid of.
I push the gate open and walk in. I gesture for Elise to follow, but she stays glued to the spot, shaking crazily. Why would she come all this way only to stop here? Forgetting about her, I continue walking until I get to an old grave in the middle of the graveyard. I can't quite make out the name due to a layer of dust, but it's a grave so it will do. Taking out the knife from my bag, I scan my surroundings. The graves are a dirty white, yet they still light up the whole cemetery in an eerie way. After a few attempts, I get a firm grip on the knife's handle. Gooosebumps arise on my back all the way up to my neck. Why does this feel so wrong? I glance back to the cemetery's entrance, but Elise is nowhere in sight. Ugh, she just slipped away, leaving me here alone. Well, now that my witness is gone, I can just forget about this dare. Why are all these thoughts in my head? I never give up on a dare.
Without further ado, I stab the knife into the base of the tombstone. Immediately, I feel a sharp pain in my left foot. I look down, but my vision blurs. What the heck?! There are red, glowing eyes in the ground. I must be hallucinating. My vision swarms again and my knees give in. I start falling slowly... It seems to take ages before I hit the ground. The last thing I hear is, "I'm coming for you."
