Kona was rudely awakened by her neon blue alarm clock, reading 5:30.
Kona had not wanted to get up this early. In fact, she didn't know a single person who would. Except of course, morning people. They seemed so mythical she wouldn't have been surprised at all if none existed. Maybe she just didn't know a lot of people. Or rather, care to know...
She had a ton of friends. Or did she? What did friends mean, anyway? How much do you have to know about a person before you can consider them your 'friend'?
Maybe it would be a silly question to ask. You're friends if you're friends! But if she didn't know if any of her friends were morning people, were they really friends?
Oh come on, now that's just downright stupid.
She was so lost in thought she had forgotten what she set the alarm this early for.
She had to pack for Towson.
She groggily got up out of bed and felt for her light switch. She winced as her lamp flashed an uncomfortable white light.
'Ugh, I need a coffee...' She thought.
She shuffled in her closet untill she found a teal luggage case, rough around the edges from years of abuse. At least the zipper is intact.
She zips it open with relative ease, and opens it. Thankfully, it isn't too dusty. Now, what to pack in it.
Her first thought was clothes. She'd have to pick her favorite outfits to bring with her, and everything else will be left behind. That stressed her out a bit, but she'll manage. Knowing is half the battle, yadda yadda.
She threw her grey hoodie, a couple of solid color shirts, and a couple pairs of jeans in her luggage. A thought of being judged popped into her mind, and she took a few of the tees out and replaced them with the more stylish shirts, gifts and hand me downs given to her because she never went shopping. She glanced at the single pair of heels she owns, and wondered if she should pack them.
"Too much space, it wouldn't be worth it..." She thought. But then she worried what her classmates would think if she wore sneakers all the time. She sighed and packed them anyway.
She threw in some travel sized toothpaste and a petit bright pink toothbrush. She was reluctant to bring her small makeup bag, but decided she was better off with it in hand.
Soap, travel shampoo and conditioner, a small comb, what else?
She threw in a towel and washcloths, a fiction book she hasn't gotten around to reading, her phone and a charger, but she still felt like she was missing something.
She looked up on her wall and laughed to herself.
"Yeah, I'm gonna need that, too." She said aloud, as she took down her shiny Taylor Guitar, her most prized possession.
Kona rummages her closet yet again before finding a case for her. Kona zips her up, and she looks around her room, feeling content.
"I guess that's it, huh..."
She had already ordered plane tickets to Maryland yesterday, so at this point, it was just a matter of showing up. It was a site to behold to watch all her life savings sliced in half with the purchase of that ticket. She sighs, looking down at my wallet.
