You wake up and are met with the  florescence lights of the Avengers medical wing. Your memories of how you ended up here are still a bit fuzzy, only remembering little bits of the last day you were  conscious.

Mission.

Hydra.

Running.

Pain.

Steve.

STEVE.

Scrambling to sit up and breathing heavily, you are lightly forced down, back into the mattress. Glancing over to the left, you see a blond head of hair and those two blue eyes that you loved oh so much.

"(Y/N), look at me, it's alright. You're in the tower. I'm right here. Breathe, here, breathe with me." Steve took your hand and softly placed it on his chest. You laid there for multiple minutes, attempting to match your breathing with your best friend.

Except, you didn't want to be his best friend. You wanted to be something more. There was always a part of you that thought Steve was attractive, like REALLY attractive. But, lately, you have been catching yourself admiring him for more than his looks. You wanted him to hold you in his arms and you wanted to be able to kiss the man for God sake.

Finally finding the strength to speak, you ask, "what happened?"

Steve gives you a questioning look. "You don't remember?" When you shook your head, he paused before proceeding. "We were sent on a mission with the team to infiltrate a Hydra base at the abandoned warehouse, downtown. They knew we were coming and it, well, it went down hill from there."

"How long?" You pause to take a breath, "How long have I been out?" You hoped it wasn't long. You knew that you could do better. You needed to train harder and get stronger.

Steve paused once again. "9 days." No, that couldn't be right. That's over a week. You began breathing heavily and Steve took your hand again. He held it to his chest until you were sinking back into the pillow, clearly exhausted.

Without thinking, he leaned over and kissed your forehead. "Get some sleep (Y/N). I'll stay right here, okay?" You were too far gone to even register his actions, allowing yourself to close your eyes and drift off once again.

Next time you came around, Natasha was sitting in the chair beside your bed. When you shifted, she looked at you with a sympathetic smile.

"Hey (Y/N), nice to see you awake again." After Natasha saw your darting eyes, she quickly realized that's you were searching for someone else. "We had to drag Steve to bed, you know. He barely ate or slept while you unconscious. He cares for you, in more ways than I think you realize. I say, make the first move."

You look at her with false confusion, hoping she'd fall for the act. "What are you talking about?" As soon as you said that, you could tell she saw straight through the lie.

Raising one eyebrow, she said, "You do realize that trick doesn't work with me, right? I'm a trained assassin and a spy. I hope you didn't forget that."

Giggling, you rolled your eyes. "I don't think I hit my head that hard. But seriously, was it really that obvious?"

"To everyone but Steve apparently. I don't know what it is with you two. Both of you are so oblivious when it comes to someone showing their feelings for you. We have bets placed on who's gonna make the first move." She smirked at you before getting up. "Now, if you don't mind me, I'm going to eat something. I'll send Bruce down so you can get out of here."

Steve walked to your bedroom and leaned against  the door frame while you walked out of your closet. "Hey (Y/N), it's good to see you around and about again."

You glanced up at him and smiled. "Thanks, I was getting tired of the whole hospital thing."

He walked up to you and hugged you. You two stood in the same spot for a few minutes, wrapped in each other's arms.

Steve's voice cut through the peaceful silence. "This whole thing made me realize that I should have told you a long time ago." You looked up at him and he proceeded. "I have been in love with you for so long. I've been too afraid to tell you how I felt because I didn't think you felt the same way. When I found you in the Hydra base, I was so afraid that I lost you. I couldn't handle the idea of you not being ok."

You pulled away from the hug and he starting panicking. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin our friendship. I'm sorry I even sai-"

You cut him off by pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He automatically closed his eyes  and returned the kiss. After a few seconds, you pulled away before asking, "was that ok?"

He stared at you in disbelief before saying, "hell yeah." You looked at him in is mock disbelief. "Language Captain."

He mumbled, "oh shut it" before he pulled you into another kiss. You melted into the kiss and he pulled you closer, as if that was even possible. But, you both jumped apart when you heard the round of applause coming from your open door.

"What the hell guys," you said as went to close the door. Nat was quick to shove the door all the way open and asked, "Which one of you did it? Who made the first move?" You glanced at Steve before rolling your eyes.

"Get out. Please. Just get out," you said. "Nope. We're not leaving until you tell us who kissed who first." "Damn it Stark, you already have enough money. Why do you think you have to make money off of our love life. By the way, I kissed Steve."

Without waiting to see who traded money with who, you shut the door in their face and turned back to Steve who started talking. "Ok. That was totally not fair. I made the first move. Doll, you just kissed me. I confessed my love to you."

"Oh just shut up and just kiss me again please."
