Almost There

It's the last day of college before spring break. Everyone is exited and time seems to be moving slower than usual. I'm sitting in my last class of the day, fiddling with my pencil. I was taking notes, but with 5 minutes left of class, I couldn't focus. Then, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and read the text I had received. It was from my boyfriend Asher, he was out of class already and was waiting for me so we can get on the road.

Asher: Where are you?

Me: Still in class :/

Asher: We don't have all day you know

Me: I know, I'll be out there in a few minutes

Asher: Fine

When I finally got out of class I ran tords the park where Asher and our friends were waiting. Luke was loading bags into the van and the rest of our friends were climbing in, preparing for the three hour car ride.

The campsite we were camping at for the week was in the middle of no where. The nearest town was a half hour away, it was peaceful out here.

Our friend group was made up of half girls and half boys. Everyone is dating someone in our friend group, well, except for Noah. The couples are sharing tents and Noah has a tent to himself.

When we got to the campsite and started setting up our supplies, I looked around and observed for a second. Harper and Luke we're setting up their tent and laughing at who knows what. Kylie and Owen were arguing about where to put their tent, she wanted it in the shade but Owen wanted it by the water. Nina and Ryker weren't being productive at all, Nina was playing with Rykers hair while sitting on his lap. Ivy and Matt we're starting a fire and setting up logs to sit on around it, quietly minding their own business. Then, I looked at Noah, he caught my eye. We made eye contact and he just smiled and shook his head. He went back to setting up his tent. Noah and I have been friends for a while, but drifted apart when Asher and I got together. I turned my attention back to Asher and he did not seem happy.

"We have a lot to do before sundown, we don't have time to daze off," he said.

"Sorry babe," I said and started to help him with the tent.

After everyone got their tent set up we all gathered around the fire and sat on logs. Asher held me in his arms as we all talked. The couples all sat with each other and Noah sat on a stump by himself. Kylie went to her tent and came back with stuff to make s'mores. She handed everyone a marshmallow, chocolate, and a graham cracker. When she came over to give me mine, she dropped it on the ground.

"Oops, sorry Hannah," she said with a smirk.

I knew she didn't like me, but couldn't she just be nice for this one week when I'm stuck with her? I don't know why she doesn't like me, but we have the same friends so we're always around each other.

"That was the last marshmallow, sorry," she said with a laugh.

Everyone else made s'mores and I was left out. It wasn't a big deal its just that she always has to make a problem.

We all talked as they made their s'mores and I sat their feeling left out. Noah walked over to me with his s'more and smiled. He broke it in half and gave half to me. I smiled and thanked him, then he went back to where he was sitting and engaged in the conversation.

"What's your guys most embarrassing moment?" Harper asked.

Harper has always been my best friend, she's stuck with me through everything and stands up to Kylie for me.

"My eighth grade speech in front of the whole school, when I peed my pants because I was so nervous. Everyone laughed and I fainted from embarrassment," Owen said.

"Eww that actually happened?" Kylie said.

"Yeah.."

"Well my most embarrassing moment was when I lost my swim trunks on a water slide in third grade. I cried the whole rest of the day and always wore the tightest swim trunks after that," said Noah and everyone laughed.

"What about you Kylie, what's your most embarrassing moment?" Asher asked.

"Oh Asher, I have a lot," she said.

"Spill!" Ivy urged.

Kylie rolled her eyes and Nina said, "Come on Kylie!"

"Well, my most embarrassing moments are when I'm caught in public with Hannah," Kylie said and everyone but Harper, Luke, and Noah laughed.

My face turned red and I felt tears well in my eyes. No one but Noah noticed and he gave me a sympathetic look. Everyone else continued on and shared stories. We spent the next few hours laughing and singing around the camp fire.
