The chains felt cold against her wrists, unnaturally cold, but it didn't bother her in the slightest. Her attention was on all the looks she could feel on her, the ones she saw from afar and felt as a shiver on her back.
She raised her head higher, a cold smile on her full lips while she walked down the aisle.
Her parents, she found them while her gaze roamed the crowd of people, standing left and right from her, their faces were filled with shock, fear and disbelief.

Her parents ...
They were nice people. At least to her and others.
She knew exactly why they were so disappointed. She was everything they ever hoped for, everything they ever wished for. And now their perfect little gift was sentenced to death.

»Mommy, where do babies come from? « She remembered asking her mother at the age of six.
»Well, my dear, « her mother stroked over her long black hair and sighed, thinking about the question for a moment, »if a man and a woman love each other very much and then sometimes, they do things and then the woman will give birth after a while ... Do you understand? «
She didn't understand.
»What kind of things? «
Now, when she thought about it, her mother looked helpless and seemed to search desperately for an explanation. »They get ... Physical. They , « she hesitated for a moment, » kiss. And more ...«
A disgusted look appeared on the child's face and she raised her eyebrows. »Was that how I was made too? «
The helpless expression disappeared from the mother's face and her expression softened slightly, »No, my dear, you were a gift from the gods. «
Back then she didn't understand what that would mean, she just tilted her head to the side. » What does that mean? «
»That one of the gods - Inanna - gave you to us. «
»Does that mean you are not my real parents? «
The smile from her mother's face disappeared and she looked worried while she listened, licking her lips while she glanced around the room. »We love you as if you are our very own. « An awkward smile formed on her face and Yara nodded, her mother stroking over her hair again.
She understood.
Silence filled the room for a brief moment until she looked back at the adult. »Is that what Daddy does with the nice woman that works at the docks? «
The smile disappeared once again and the adult's eyes hardened. »No, darling, that is something else ... «

It wasn't something else. Not exactly.
They were sleeping with each other, after everything her father and mother went through together he decided that she wasn't enough for him anymore.
Back then she thought he was disgusting.
She still thought that way, but now she could also see that he was a coward. A coward who came home every day, kissed his wife as if nothing had happened and continued to play a role he obviously didn't want anymore.
And so did she. She never said a word, she always pretended like she wouldn't know.
She had to know and Yara was convinced that she knew about it from the beginning, yet neither of them had ever said a single word about it.
An arrogant smile crossed her face as she walked past them, smiling at them without any remains of the love she once had for them when she was a child.
Disgusting, nothing else but cowards.

Not far away she could see the woman standing in the crowd, watching her with fear, watching every move she made, as if she was going to jump at her and rip her throat out.
»Sweet little Delaney ... Such a whore ... « She whispered, leaning closer to her while she passed by, watching the color fade from her cheeks and how her brown eyes widened in shock.
The look on her face was satisfied and she didn't care that she was pulled away from her roughly by one of the guards, holding onto the chains on her wrists.
That was worth it and she couldn't help but giggle lightly, which caused a few people to back away even further from her.
This amused her even more, they acted like scared little sheeps. Adorable.

A little further she could spot Serena's parents, all dressed in white.
The closer she got the tighter the parent's grip on their children got, as if they tried to make sure that she couldn't get another one.
It caused her to chuckle. It wasn't going to bring their firstborn back.
