A tiny bell rung as the girls pushed open the door of a small restaurant not far from the school. It was a regular spot for students to meet up with friends, so on this particular Friday night, the place was packed. Michimiya and (y/n) peered through the crowd, eyes peeled for any sign of Daichi. He must have spotted the girls before they saw him because suddenly he was at their side ready to lead them to a table in the back corner of the bustling restaurant.

When they arrived, sitting at the table was a silver-haired boy with a gleaming smile and a beauty mark just below his left eye. he was wearing a grey sweater over top of a white dress shirt and trousers. he looked well put together compared to most of the boys his age.

"Michimiya, (y/n), this is Sugawara. We play on the volleyball team together and have been friends for longer than I can remember," Daichi said, motioning to Sugawara. (y/n) didn't want to admit this, but she already knew all of that.

"We have English together, don't we?" Sugawara asked (y/n) in English, who was brought back to reality from her thoughts. His accent was brilliant and smooth.

"Oh, uh, yeah," she replied, afraid he read her thoughts just a moment ago. The truth was she knew exactly who Sugawara Koushi was. They shared the same English class, and his intelligence was hard not to notice. He was top of their year and would often speak to the teacher before and after class in perfect English. She wondered if it was possible he wasn't born in Japan.

"So, Michimiya tells me you're joining the volleyball team (y/n), how long have you been playing?" Daichi enquired.

"Well, I've only ever played in gym class really. I have no idea what I'm doing half the time, but Michimya said the team really needed a setter, so I couldn't let my friend down." (y/n) replied, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"Wow, that's so kind of you. I'm the setter for the boy's team, I wouldn't want to be anything else. It might seem like a lot at first but you'll get the hang of it. Try not to worry too much!" Sugawara smiled. (y/n)'s stomach fluttered a little at his words of encouragement.

"Say, Suga, you should practice a bit with (y/n). I'm sure having a proper setter teaching her would be really helpful," Daichi suggested, "what do you say?"

"I mean I would love to! But, are you sure she wouldn't be better off with Kageyama? He is our official setter," Sugawara sighed, you could tell this was kind of a touchy subject for him.

"You really think Kageyama is capable of teaching anyone, anything? Let alone how to set. Absolutely not. You doubt yourself too much Suga, you're still an amazing setter." Daichi always knew what to say to encourage his teammates, especially his best friend.

"Then I would love to teach you some things. That is, only if you want to," Sugawara said politely.

"I would really appreciate that. Thank you," (y/n) smiled and looked up at Sugawara.

"I guess it's settled then. We'll meet Monday after class at our gym to practice," he smiled back.

Just then a very frazzled and overwhelmed looking waitress came up to their table, apologizing profusely for taking so long to get their order. The kids all laughed and said it was perfectly fine.

The rest of the night, the four of them went on chatting and eating, but (y/n) couldn't help but notice the sneaking glances and little smiles Sugawara was giving her the whole night.
