Even though his emerald crown somewhat covered his pointy ears, Nyoko was not quite deafened to the sounds of battle around him. The clashing of weapons and the whizzing of arrows through the sky, the explosions as Withers fired skulls at the buildings of Fronchester, the last city of Felden yet to be conquered by the Nether. The king ran through the city streets, flanked by his guards, felling hordes and hordes of undead and the occasional Netheran, never stopping to take a break. This was the Kingdom of Felden's last stand. Every second counted.
It had been almost three months since the fall of Felora, the capital city. Three months since the Felden-Necromancer war took a drastic turn, with the armies of the Nether intervening on a third side and emerging victorious over both. Three months since the government officials had been executed, the kingdom in its de jure state had dissolved, and Kiyoshi, renowned former captain of the Felden Guard, had been defeated in battle and presumed dead. King Nyoko had assumed total leadership of all that was left, the remainder of the military forming into what was known as "The King's Brigade", the last line of defense for Felden.
"Your majesty! They've got the upper hand!" one of Nyoko's soldiers shouted, arriving.
"If it comes to it, fall back and retreat to the Kawaiin Islands!" Nyoko ordered. "The fleets were moved from the Mahoa Docks. We can sail to the islands and secure them before the Nether does! But for now, keep fighting! We need to give our enemies everything we've got!"
The soldier nodded and ran off. A Wither skull came flying towards Nyoko. The king quickly took cover behind a building, the skull hitting the wall opposite him and causing it to crumble. He slid to the side, back into the open, only to be faced by a horde of zombies and skeletons, along with a few Netherans.
Nyoko's guards rushed to fight them, but were quickly overpowered. Then the king himself rushed forwards. Upon reaching the first zombie, Nyoko planted his double-tipped emerald staff into the ground, pole vaulting over the creature and landing in front of the nearest Netheran. Then, Nyoko plunged the staff into the Netheran's heart, killing them immediately.
The king began to swing his sword—also made of emerald—around ferociously, cutting down zombie after zombie. Once, a skeleton's arrow flew towards him, but he twirled his staff around in the air and reflected the arrow, which found its home in the skull of the same skeleton which fired it in the first place. Soon, the king had cleared the area of most of the undead.
A second Netheran rushed to attack him, but he threw his staff, which embedded itself in the Netheran's chest, once again killing them on the spot. The final Netheran in the immediate vicinity began doing the same thing as the one before, running towards the king. The very same mistake. Nyoko picked up a sword that had dropped from one
of the fallen undead with his other hand, before tossing it up into the sky where it spun above him. He waited for it to linger, and then fall, before leaping up into the air, spinning around and kicking the sword, timing the move perfectly so his foot lined up with the hilt of the weapon. The force propelled the sword forward, and it sailed right into the unfortunate Netheran's head.
Panting heavily, the king walked over to the second Netheran and retrieved his staff. He then heard the telltale ghastly noise of a Wither. He turned around, only to see an all too familiar Netheran standing on one of those wretched three headed creatures. The Netheran bore a perpetually angry expression and carried both a misshapen axe and a glowing orange blade. It was none other than Pythus, king of the Nether, himself.
Time seemed to slow down to a snail's pace, every moment becoming an eternity as the Nether king leaped from the Wither, preparing to land ahead of Nyoko and bring down his sword. Nyoko entered a defensive stance with his two weapons. This was it.
The clash of the kings.
(Yes, there will be more wholesome Kiyoshi and Nitsuke moments. Patience, young ones.)
