we navigate the coast."~~Mohammed Sekouty

~Nova~
The moment I realized what I had said, the word I had called him, I wanted to snatch it back but I couldn't. It hung in the air like a blazing, blinking neon sign and I had no idea what to do. Moving on from the anger I had held onto for so long, Dominic and I had formed a decent relationship much to my own surprise. We still had moments of butting heads but something told me that was because we were alike in some ways. But did I see him that way? Well obviously part of me did, but what do I do now that I've said it?
Dominic was boiling beneath the surface, his walls cracking while he teetered on the edge like humpty dumpty. One wrong move and everything would collapse, a spiral that only one person could stop, the one person who wasn't here and had caused it to begin with.
Nevada's bright green eyes were shiny with tears as she looked from me to him, every muscle in our bodies tight and poised for action that neither of us knew how to take next. I couldn't anticipate his reaction, nothing but a shell shocked man held in the grips of my power looked back at me. An endless stream of emotions swirled in the emerald depths, most likely mirroring my own as I struggled to wrap my thoughts around it all.
I could feel his pain, his joy, his fear and anger, digging and stabbing their way into my consciousness. Drowning in a mental storm, unable to remember how to build my mental shield against the onslaught, my eyes flicked back to Nevada with a silent plea that earned me a panicked expression. Before any of us could say anything, just gaping at each other in a less than productive way, pounding footsteps raced towards us. August tore around the corner from the top of the stairs and Robbie as well but from the opposite direction, each a blur and then they were joining our ridiculously precarious gathering.
"What-," Nevada began, wide eyed as she looked at the two of them.
"Five minutes and everything goes to shit again?" Robbie asked at the same time, looking around at the three of us.
"What's going on here?" This from August who was frowning at the magickal restraints I still held on Dominic.
"Uh…," I stammered, neurons firing rapidly to catch up with what was actually happening. "Well, what happened was -"
"Alana left!" Dominic snarled, fighting the bindings again as he swung his suddenly fiery gaze to Robbie. "How did she leave without you seeing her?!"
"She did what?" Robbie asked incredulously.
Before he could defend himself, Dominic rounded on August and I felt his power rise to push against mine in defiance.
"And you! How could you not catch her leaving?!" he spat. "Such great patrolling skills you've got there, old friend."
August's silver eyes instantly blazed violet, the muscle in his jaw ticking as he regarded his friend through narrowed eyes.
"You think I had something to do with this." It was a statement instead of a question. "You honestly think I would willingly let your wife wander through the woods and leave the safety of our barrier?"
"She got away somehow," Dominic glowered.
"Got away?" This from Nevada, her brow furrowed. "She wasn't a prisoner any more than anyone else in this house."
