It's already been a whole month since I arrived in Bondi, Sydney and started working for GreenFocus studios. So far it has been an absolute dream. The people I'm working with are awesome, and the jobs I've done so far are so much fun. Today was Tuesday, and for as far as I've heard it was going to be a pretty quit day at the office. There was going to be only one shoot in the afternoon and the rest was basically just finishing off other projects.
It was around 8:00AM in the morning when I was scrolling down Campbell parade on my bike to get to work. Looking to my right the beautiful Bondi Beach was still pretty quiet and peaceful with only a handful of locals taking in the early morning breeze. I loved taking my bike instead of the car to get to work. The office isn't far at all from my place and it's an amazing way to start the day and get a little bit of extra exercise. I take a quick stop at Harrys Bondi to grab a nice cup of coffee and head down to the office. "Good morning!" I say very enthusiastic as I walk in. In the month that I started working here, I've already become very close with everyone. It's amazing how fast you can connect with someone over the same passion. "A good morning to you too Harper!" I hear a male voice shout from somewhere in the distance. Soon followed by the always happy Carter whose head is now popping up out of the door that leads to the meeting room. "Where's everyone? I'm not that early right?" I say as I put my backpack on the chair in front of my desk. As I look around there is no one else here except for Carter and me. "Oh, yeah! That's right!" I hear Carter say who once again disappeared into the meeting room. "They had to stay till pretty late last night so Oliver gave them the first two hours off to get some extra sleep." Oliver is honestly one of the best bosses you can have in the world. For as far as I know anyway. He is young, not much older as me, which let me tell you is pretty impressive to run a company that big for his age. But his young vision in the world and his enthusiasm makes him so good at what he does, and that doesn't even cover the fact that he wants to be treated just like everyone else in the office. Not like one of those bossy and always angry bosses who like to ruin their employees day..., or does that only happen in the movies?
Carter walks towards me as I now lean against the door entry of the meeting room. "What are you doing in here anyways?" I ask seeing how Carter is cleaning up the room and preparing the coffee machine. "We got some people coming in, in about an hour for a big job." He scratches the back of his head, obviously being very nervous about it. "Oh really? I didn't see anything in the schedule?" I walk into the room and help put a few chairs in line with the table. "Yeah, they called this morning! One of their crewmembers got injured and they needed a replacement asap." He takes one final look at the room to make sure everything is looking good and then walks out gesturing for me to follow him. "So... what's the project about?" I ask as I sits down on Carter his desk where he is now sitting behind his computer. "Not sure, they didn't inform me about it that much yet, all the told me is that it's for a tv show and that they were in a rush." I raise my eyebrows. "Tv huh? that's huge!" Carter laughs. "Yeah, I know!"
It's been an hour since the meeting for the big job started. I've been trying to get a grip of how it was going in there, but so far neither Carter or Oliver have left the meeting room to give me a quick update. Usually there is always one that quickly grabs another coffee, or lead the way to the bathroom for someone that had to use it. But no, this time it was a long waiting game. As I tried to take my mind of it, and finish some work that I still had, the door to the meeting room opened. "Harper." Oliver looks around the corner as I look up to him slightly confused. "Would you mind coming in here for a second?" As my nerves start to rise I make my way to Oliver and look into the room. There are 3 people sitting on the left side of the table, one woman, and two men. To my surprise they aren't wearing any suits or formal clothes, but just some casual clothes with on their feet simple thongs. The woman looks at me with friendly eyes and takes a sip from her coffee. On the right side of the table sits Carter who now looks at me and gives me a quick smile."Take a seat." Oliver says with a smile as he points in the direction of one of the empty chairs. I sit down and look in the direction of the men and woman and give them a friendly smile before looking at Oliver and Carter. "So, Harper. I want you to meet Ben, Jas & Rollie." They look at me and nod their heads. "Nice to meet you," I say. "Likewise." I turn my head to Oliver again waiting for him to tell me why I'm here. "Right, the reason I asked you in here... Maybe Ben wants to explain." Oliver says as he gestures his hand in the direction of Ben. "Of course. So, Harper... We are currently filming the 14th season of Bondi Rescue. Have you heard of it before?" I nod. "I've heard of it yes." I reply. I remember watching a few of the early seasons with my dad for him to show me what he does daily. "Well David, one of our film crew members got injured while surfing yesterday and we are looking for a replacement for the whole summer. Now your colleague and boss here told me you are a great surfer and naturally good in the water, and very talented when it comes to filming and all that stuff. Which is something we could really use, since we film on the beach, but also in the water." Ben says. "Our question basically is, if you would like to join our team for the summer?" Jess now asks while looking at me. I look back at Oliver and Carter who are now nodding their heads. I smile. This sounds awesome. Working at a beach, while filming a documentary about the lifeguards and the work they do there. I honestly don't even have to think about it for a second. "Uh yes! That sounds awesome." I turn my head towards Carter and Oliver who both give me a big smile. "Great." Ben replies. "Can you start tomorrow? Or at least stop by so we can explain how everything works? We officially start filming on Saturday so that gives you a few days to get used to our gear." I nod my head. "Yeah. That works for me." Ben, Jess & Rollie stand up. Ben reaches out his hand for me to shake it. "Good. Our office is located just north of the tower on the beach. The small round building underneath the platform." I nod to let him know that I know what he means and shake his hand, followed by the ones from Jess & Rollie. "We'll see you tomorrow then." Rollie says. "Just come around lunch time." Jess adds before walking out of the room with Oliver leading them the way. "Well I certainly did not expect that when I woke up this morning." I laugh. "This is gonna be great for you Harper!" Carter lays his hand on my shoulder and shakes it firmly causing the chair with wheels that I was sitting on to roll away slightly. I raise my eyebrow. "Why didn't you go? I know how much you would want to do something like this." "I would like to, but I wouldn't be the right person to do it. I'm not good at swimming so imagine me having to hold a camera while doing so? You at the other hand were born for this." He laughs. "You are gonna be great. Only to bad I have to miss you as one of my employees for a few months." Oliver says as he walks back into the room. "Now since today is a quit day, why don't you take the rest of the day off and prepare for tomorrow?" I really do have one of the best bosses in the world.
