"Ires...right?" Spoke the man as he sat down next to her crossing his legs.

Ires' heart sinks at the sound of her real name being uttered by an unfamiliar voice inside the palace walls. With a panic heart, Ires turn and face the man with a stone unfazed visage and said,

"Ires?... My name is Amanda Creek," she said with an unsettled countenance.

"You sure?" replied the man as he spins the pocket knife. "...'cause you left this on the kitchen counter earlier when you were making the King's tea and it has the name Ires engraved on it." He continues.

"Oh yeaaahhh... I found it on the street on my way here this morning and thought it was pretty cool. Sue me!" she laugh.

Confident in her lie, Ires reached out her hand and took back the pocket knife from the man.

"You have a name?" she asked desperately wanting to change the subject.

"How rude of me! My apologies madame. The name is Richard—I'm here for royal boot camp in the hope of getting the position of a palace butler."  He said with pride.

"Mmmm...good for you Richard," mumbled Ires. "I gotta go now, dinner is about to start and we have a long day tomorrow."  She announced as gets up from the prickly grass.

"You are correct! Tomorrow is decision day. Are you certain you'll get the position?—what are you applying for?"

"Assistant Housekeeping. And yes...." she paused "I'm very confident" she smirked.

"That's the attitude!" shouts the Richard.

With a brisk smile in acknowledgment of Richard's response, Ires rapidly walked away from the yard to the palace.

"Oh! It was nice meeting you Miss Amanda, hope to see more of you!" exclaimed Richard across the yard.

Pretending not to hear Richard, Ires hastily made her way inside the palace.

The moment she entered the palace Kitchen, Ires was greeted by a smile wider than the Nile river.

"There you are darling, aren't I glad to see you!" declared Madame Honoré.

"Hi, Madame Honoré is everything okay?" she asked bewildered.

"Yes, everything is fine—they are fantastic to be frank! The king loved your tea! Did you do anything differently?"

Pretending to be afraid, Ires looked down at the floor postponing her answer.

"Umm..."  she begins.

"Non, non, non!" don't be afraid to speak, I will not be upset, I simply like to know." assured Madame Honoré

" Well, I started to follow your recipe for the tea but I added a few extra things from my grandmother's recipe. She makes the same tea every night."  she lied.

Really?... I don't really allow this kind of behavior but I'll make an exception. The king loved it and will not stop raving about it." she said as she walked over to the dining table alongside Ires where the servants were preparing to dine.
