Heterochromia, his heterochromia eyes, how he despised it.
Donnie hated having to look in the mirror, it made him look to see those eyes. But he had to, so he can check on his eyebrows after he finished putting them on or to put contacts in.
The first time he noticed them was in his early childhood after it attained its full melanin. When his younger self saw one colored eye was different, he ran straight to his father, calling for him and telling him there was something wrong with his eyes.
But when Splinter checked, all he could see was his two colored eyes.
"They're different, papa!" Young Donnie said, distressed.
"It's just heterochromia, my son. It makes you special."
Special? Donnie felt disturbed by it, not special. It was too attention grabbing and weird, his brothers had normal eyes and was always saying something about his.
"They look great, Donald!"
"Lookin' good, Don!"
When he started to wear contacts, his brothers seemed disappointed. They liked his heterochromia, it was interesting and eye catching.
"Hey Dee! Did you put on contacts?" Mikey asked, standing in the kitchen as he made grilled cheese.
"Yes, I did." Donnie answered, sitting dawn at the table. Mikey frowned. "But you looked so great with your normal eye colors. They're so colorful!"
'Normal, yeah right.' Donnie thought, mentally groaning. He just couldn't see what his brothers saw. They all had normal eye colors but Donnie? He had two weird, colored eyes. Why didn't he have blue eyes like his younger brother?
"Hey Leo!" Mickey greeted as his brother walked into the room. The slider walked into the kitchen with grin. Leo waved back and sat down with Donnie.
Donnie stared at his phone but he could feel his twin's stare as he scrolled down. "Hey, Don." Leo started. "If it's about my contacts, I don't want talk about it." Donnie said.
"I wasn't going to say anything about it." Leo said. Donnie looked up from his phone. "Yeah but you were thinking about it, weren't you. So stop."
Mikey set the plates and the soft shell's morning coffee. "Order's up!" He said, smiling. Donnie sighed and took his coffee mug into his hand.
Leo looked at Donnie before down at his food. When he was a kid and noticed Donnie's eyes, he was amazed by them. As a kid, it seemed so magical and as a teen, he still thought it was magical.
Now that he thought about it, Donnie never denied it. The soft shell wouldn't make a objection about heterochromia being magic. While in his thoughts, Donnie had finished eating and went to his lab.
"Leo?" The slider looked up upon hearing his name. Mikey stood with his apron still on and cleaning his hands. "You okay?" He asked, the box turtle had notice his brother hadn't touched his food yet.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He quickly finished his food and got up. "Thanks for the meal, bud!"
"Wait, where are you going??" Mikey asked, watching Leo run out of the kitchen and hurried into the lab.

Donnie sighed, walking over to his desk as he began to work. He didn't want to think about his insecurities at the moment, he needed a distraction and what was a better distraction than inventing?Outside his lab door was Leo, sliding up to it and knocking on it. "Don, can we talk?"
The soft shell rolled his eyes, Leo probably was going to talk to him and bug him while he worked. Donnie opened the lab door and gave Leo a unappealing look. "What do you want, Leon?"
