I hated him so damn much.
The way Harry moved... it killed me inside, just a bit. Sometimes I would lose myself in his own performance and mess up. He was just so captivating, this.... This insane storm that pulled you in, when you knew you should be inside, safe. You couldn't look away. You had to watch, you had to feel the power of this storm. You had to feel it shake you, pull you, and almost make you feel so insignificant. He was the perfect dancer. He had this way about him that overwhelmed me, now more than ever, because every single day, for at least six hours, we were glued together.
"Odette, do you want the truth?" Vincent yelled at me in front of Harry. "I'm regretting casting you."
"Why? What am I doing wrong?"
"You're not becoming the Black Swan, you are white through and through. You are not changing, you are the same from the start to the finish. You are innocent and that is going to be the demise of this ballet." He stormed out and I just stared at myself in the mirror.
"I don't know what to do." I whispered. "I thought I was being dark."
"No, not really." Harry stared with an empty expression. "You're faking it, it's clear. It's so obvious."
"I don't even..." I shook my head. "I need to practice, alone, please?"
He backed right off and left. I kept dancing, in a full practice tutu. I was there till it was dark out; I walked to the mirror, sweaty, exhausted. I leaned against the glass, sliding down it, aching inside. I wanted to prove everyone like, and I was feeling like I failed.
"No change."
I jumped at the sound of Harry's voice. I stared at him. He had changed, and he looked... great. The way his dark wash jeans fell into a straight leg, his plain white t shirt hung on him showcased his body perfectly. It took me a moment to clear my head to think properly. "What?"
"You move the exact same. This time, you will ruin this show."
"What a shitty thing to do, kick me while I'm down."
"Well," he shrugged. "This role is important to me."
"And it's not to me?" I laughed out of anger, standing up. 'I need this role more than anything. You act like this isn't something I've wanted my whole life."
"Then why aren't you doing it correctly?"
"I just have no connection to the Black Swan. I don't understand the dark aspect I suppose. I'm always the innocent girl; I'm not much of a fighter. I mean, the rocky start with you was the most confrontation in my whole life"
"Then you need to step out of your innocent white swan persona." He walked around me, looking me up and down. His voice was low and deep, speaking very slowly and deliberately. "Odile ... she's seductive, manipulative, she's passionate, sensual. We need to take you places that you've never seen."
I swallowed. "Like where?"
"First," he stepped behind me, and pulled the tutu off, tossing it to the floor. "How badly do you want this part?" he whispered against my ear. I could feel how warm his body was, I could smell his cologne, my eyes almost rolled.
"More than you even know."
"How far are you willing to go to become the Black Swan?"
"... as far as it takes." I said softly.
"What a good answer."
"How are we going to help me step into her role?"
"By becoming her piece by piece. First... you are far too... goodie-goodie. You do everything you're supposed to."
