~Asher
Brown eyes are boring. My mother always told I was full to my eyes with shit. Not that I cared what she thought, but then again it can drain on you when someone's always attacking your appearance.12 years ago-
"Sit up Asher, no one likes a hunchback dear." Mother combed my strictly curly black hair down flat. "God, how I hate your unruly black nest, do you have any idea how exhausting it is to deal with this everyday?""Sorry Mother."
I stare at myself in the mirror. A tall skinny boy with an abundance of black curls stares back. Plain is the only word that comes to mind. I fix my shirt so it lays down flat against my chest.
I sigh before I peel myself away from the mirror to leave my room. Heading down the hallway my younger brother comes barreling in behind me with his dorky little backpack.
"Watch where you're going dude." I spit out at him. I always feel bad snapping at him like that. I don't mean to, it just happens sometimes.
I follow him down my stairs expecting to smell coffee and breakfast cooking, and i'm suddenly disappointed. I step out into the kitchen expecting Mrs. Linn to be there and she wasn't.
It's odd, Mrs. Linn was always here early weekdays for us making breakfast. I grab a granola bar and a water from the fridge as a bus pulls up the front drive. The front door slams as Aiden leaves for school.
I don't have a first or second period class, so I sit down on the couch and start scrolling through my phone and eating until I have to leave. Usually I spend this time taking to Mrs. Linn, but she must have called in sick today.
I look up to the clock after sitting for a while.11:00
"That's my cue." I say to myself straightening out my clothes as I stand up. I grab my school stuff and turn off the tv before I head out the door.
I get into my car and turn the key. Pulling out of the driveway my dad pulls in.
"What?" I say to myself. I look into his car and see a blonde girl in the back seat. "God gross." Almost as if she heard me say that we made eye contact and held it for a second. I pry my eyes away and think about it.
I scrunch my nose up. That girl was really young, not that my dad was old, unless you think 45 is old, but still. She couldn't have been over 21.
I try to put the girl out of my mind. Not exactly the topic I want to be stuck thinking about all day. But as I pulled off of my road on my way to my first class, I couldn't help but think of those piercing green eyes.

I finish rinsing the conditioner out of my hair, then turn the faucet off. Stepping out of the shower, a soft off white towel wraps around my hair and another one wraps around my body. I flip my head back up and look into the mirror."Hello, I'm Fawn Warr, no... Hi! I'm Fawn Warr." I shake my head. That's no good either.
I turn the sink and brush my teeth. I pull my hair out of the towel and brush it down flat. My hair, my best feature, came all the way down to my hips. it was thin and dirty blonde, but in the sunlight, it looked just like the color of a new born fawn. That's why my mother gave me my name. She waited months after I was born to decide.
"Big day" I heard from behind me
"For both of us, I reckon." I paused, "Don't you know how to knock by the way?"
She shrugged it off. " Door was open."
Callie, my roommate and best friend, stood in the doorway looking at me. " You can always change your mind and come with me still."
