Noah basically dragged his beaten and bloody body up the stairs to his room. He grabbed his backpack and opened the bag to grab a small box from a little bakery down the street. He grabbed a birthday candle and his box of matches from his dresser before opening the box. He pulled out the small, slightly smooshed, cupcake and put the candle on the top before lighting it. He closed his eyes and his breathing was rough.
"I wish this year will be different." He muttered under his breath and blew out the flame. He knows it'll be the same. The kids at school found out how weak he is at the end of last year and it's not going to stop. His dad misses combat and takes it out on him. But more than anything, even more then for the beatings stop, he wishes that his best friend would come back to him.
