'I cannot believe your tale, it's fascinating, but also slightly upsetting. Well, I'll reciprocate with my own story. My name is Ray -as you already know- and I'm a 21 year old male.
I've been lucky enough to stay in one place for my life, but that place wasn't a stranger to common petty theft. The town and school I was at was extremely conservative and hated 'those alphabet people' and most weren't racist so that was as good as it got. I was a very short child with no athletic ability but some brain power, like an owl without the gracefulness and power. It was also tough having gone undiagnosed with ADHD, so until secondary school, I really struggled with work. I eventually got the support I needed after a teacher insisted I should be tested, she basically is the reason I was given help. I managed to get good enough grades in my GCSES and A-levels to get into university and get through life. Throughout my time in secondary school, I was unapologetically flamboyant, I wore the school skirt instead of the trousers, (I still wear skirts, crop tops and nail polish in public) to the annoyance of the teachers, and was given many isolations as a result. But this activity would make me the target of mass bullying. The only ones that would genuinely protect me, were the other lgbtq+ students, the cisgendered and heterosexual students all decided that their energy was to be used on me, the girls who thought they weren't homophobic because they "want a gay best friend" would do the least amount of work to help, maybe a simple little phrase given every now and then but nothing much otherwise... I was the old doll that you toss around and try to catch but drop. But that's where the slightly sad things end, because when I went off to university, I was allowed to move out of my town and I went to Brighton, and I'm still here of course! Here, I blossomed like a sunflower, I'm free and able to express myself without fearing being a victim of a hate crime... So here I am now, the person you hear right now. Did you go through anything else like this?
From your friend,
Ray'
