Inhale. Hold. Exhale.
Watch the smoke ripple and twist in the air.
Repeat.
Until the room is spinning and ur heart hurts a little less then it normally does.
Isopel exhaled for the last time, hiding her dab pen under her pillow.
She turned in her bed, looking out the open window beside her. The sky was clear tonight, the usual haze of smog covering the stars was gone for once. She was grateful. She had always loved the stars.
It was a nice little birthday present from the universe. Or purely a coincidence, but she wanted to believe otherwise.
It was an hour into her 18th birthday, but she didn't feel much older, just a bit uncomfortable from needing to pee.
She heard a cough outside her window, and she looked down, watching the person on the balcony below her smoke his cigarette for a moment. She had spoken to the boy that lived on the floor underneath her only a few times, even though she knew he was only a few years older than her she had never bothered to befriend him.
The boy looked up, glancing at her window before taking another drag of his cigarette. His eyes met hers, soon after looking away again.
Isopel froze. Had she just been caught staring at him? That's a bit awkward.
She sighed, turning away from her window to stare up at her ceiling yet again, a light blush painting her cheeks.
~~~
If there was one word Isopel would use to describe herself, it would be dull. She wasn't unsociable, she just wasn't exciting. All she did was skate, party, and get high.
Yes, high. It seemed like the only sober moments she had recently was when she was sleeping.
She got whatever she could get her hands on, pills, weed, cocaine, alcohol.
It's not like her dad cared enough to notice, they didn't even live together anymore. Not since she had turned 18. Other than the hefty allowance he gave her each month, they hadn't talked for months.
She was basically allowed to do whatever she wanted, and what did she do with her freedom? Seemingly nothing.
She had plenty of friends, but only one person she saw herself trusting. Park Jimin. He was her next-door neighbor, and although they avoided each other like the plague at school, they spent their afternoons awfully close to each other. Usually naked.
Or at least that's how it had started when she moved next to him 6 months ago. Now, they told each other everything, trusting the other with their deepest darkest secrets. Their friendship was great, and the sex even better.
They only had two rules: No one from school could find out, and if either of them were to catch feelings the arrangement would stop immediately.
