Something was bothering me. Something is definitely going on. The problem is, I don’t know what it is. I just have that feeling you know? That feeling when you know something’s wrong or something’s not right but you just can’t figure it out.
“Hey, Krass!” someone greeted me. Although I wasn’t able to see who it was I recognized the voice immediately.
“Hey, Chass! How’s it going?” I plastered on a fake smile in hopes she wouldn’t know it.
It didn’t work.
Her happy persona immediately changed into a concerned one and asked me what was wrong. I guess I should’ve seen that one coming, I mean we’ve been friends for so long that we had each other memorized. But I still needed to try.
“Nothing’s wrong. Everything’s completely fine. Why would you even think that?” My voice went high with the last words I spoke and I immediately knew I failed at trying to seem okay. I definitely need more practice.
Chass was lost in thought for a minute but then she saw Chase. “Yo twin, com’ere!” I turned to look at where she was looking and saw Chase jogging towards us.
“We’re getting ice cream. Let’s go!” Then Chass sped up to her brother’s car and waited for us to follow.
Chase gave me a curious and concerned glance. I started walking towards his car and looked back at him with my eyebrows raised silently asking him if he’s coming. He followed shortly after but keeping quiet. I knew he wanted to ask but I also knew that I wouldn’t be able to tell them yet.
The whole ride to the ice cream shop was basically Chass blabbering about things. She was trying to fill the silence in her brother’s car. Well, Chase doesn’t really talk much and I wasn’t really in the mood for talking so she was really all that’s left to make the car ride less uncomfortable.
We reached the ice cream shop and I immediately took a seat. Chass sat down with me while Chase was the one buying and paying for our ice cream. As we waited for the ice cream Chase ordered, Chass started the conversation.
“Are you ready to tell us what has got you bothered?” Chass asked with a patient tone.
I shook my head no. They were visibly disappointed and concerned yet they understood what I was feeling.
Sometimes I just really need time to figure things out. They knew that I needed time. That’s one of the things I’ve always been grateful for. They understood me really well.
But maybe I think this is the best time to tell them.
When our ice cream arrived, I started to spill out everything in my mind. And as usual, they listened.
Dear Kacey,
To be honest, I undoubtedly thought that when Luke finally calls me back, I would be ecstatic. I thought I’d be jumping and celebrating. I thought I’d be so happy to tell everyone that he called and explained and apologized and everything’s back to normal. Oh, how wrong I was Kc. Oh, how I only thought.
